Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that I've had this brew fermenting for 3 weeks now and plan to bottle this sat. This plus the same gravity reading consistent for 3 days shows me my brew is ready for bottles :) sorry for the confusion. As for mixing, I did plan on racking my brew...

Fermentation is complete, question before I bottle

I checked my brews gravity and it was the same three days in a row. Time to bottle! :D :ban: I did want to ask though, I went onto a priming sugar calc and it recommends 4.6oz of sugar for my 5gal while I only have 4.05. So should I go out and buy some to get the right amount or should I...

    1st brew day, I feel a success!

Yesterday I did my first ever 5gal brew batch! I used a 15gal SS kettle and an outdoor burner, added 6.5 gal of filtered water and began my boil. Once it started to boil, I turned off the heat, added my liquid malt while stirring, then turned it back up to a rolling boil and pitched my 1.5oz...

    Questions involving evaporation/LME/Bazooka screen

I was told this would get a boil going quicker, due to smaller volume? I'll just start with full volume, get to a boil, extinguish the heat and add my malt, turn it back on to a boil add hops lower flame and pray for the best! Thanks guys and wish me luck!

    Questions involving evaporation/LME/Bazooka screen

Thanks for the quick feedback Ryush806! I did have the heat up quite a bit. Should I start off with 3 gallons of water, get that to a small boil, then add the 2 gal like I did or should I just dump the 5 gal in and get it to that rolling boil?

First time brewing! Few questions please

Sorry for the late replies, was busy at work. Good points on the hot wort racking, chilling it then racking shouldn't be a problem. Also thanks gwapogorilla on those tips! I will definitely be checking out how much water evaporates and such.

Sweet thanks for the feedback Vespa! Once the rest of my equipment gets here (darn shipping!) Ill hop on getting my self a racking cane. Quick question, whens it best to use an auto siphon, a racking cane, and a blow off tube? Should I invest in all three or do they all do the same thing and its...

First time brewing! Few questions please

Thanks for the feedback C-Rider! I will definitely keep an eye on my time and S/FG. As far as the racking cane goes, I did consider buying one but I plan on using the valve that's incorporated in the kettle and a durable tube to transfer into primary. Basically set kettle on higher ground and...
