    First batch of mead

I must have got a bit premature with it. After the second the airlock pop I figured it was done and add a little water to the top. Next time I will just be patient. I must say i did sip the foam out of the airlock and that is really good. Hopefully the end result is just as awesome. Thank...

    First batch of mead

Should I even worry about an airlock at this point with the foam?

    Second brew

    High ABV?

    First batch of mead

I started homebrewing with cider and apfle wein, but this go around I thought I'd try my hand at mead. So I found a recipe Yooper posted for Joe's Ancient Orange. I must say after reading some posts about bread yeasts I had my doubts about how the yeast would do... Yeah I'm retracting my...

    Yeast nurtient

Hmm... So your saying I need to try it again with another batch? Oh darn. Well I guess if it's the only way I'll learn. :D

    Yeast nurtient

Sorry, it really wasn't a question so much as posting an experience with commercial yeast nutrient. I have heard some people use it with no problem, and I have heard some not using it. Those that don't preferred a natural yeast nutrient like raisin juice.

    Yeast nurtient

Not sure I'll be using commercial yeast nutrient in anything smaller than 5 gallons. Long story short I have a lot of cleaning to do and some hardcore JP8 cider to dilute.

    Stalled Cider...

Yeah my wife suggested I put the brew bucket in the pantry. Keep it safe from the cats she said... Then she opened the door to the after a couple of days... :-D

    Second brew

My second batch wasn't bad... I'm not thrilled with the results, but I need to figure out what went wrong. In theory the second batch should been a reproduction of my first batch, but in a 5 gallonish quantity (gotta have QC through out the process ;) ). To top off everything my hydrometer...

    Second project

Yeah, I have to remind myself that I dumped the whole yeast packet in gallon jugs and a packet in the 5 gallon bucket, but there's more head room in the bucket. There is airlock activity in the 5 gallon it just not as much as the one gallon.

    Second brew

Running a second and third batch simultaneously. Going to see how well things work out with an ale yeast this time. :mug:

    Second project

Well I am about a week into my second project. I am trying my hand at a 5 gallon batch of the previous recipe. As a side note, I found bottling and letting it age for another week or so did wonders to the taste. That being said my 5 gallon batch is not as active as when it was in the 1 gallon...

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Yeah I think that might be in my best interest. On a positive note she said I should buy an extra airlock and continue one gallon experimentations in brewing. Marriage is about communication and compromise after all.

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Well after three glasses I am kind of digging this brew. The wife wants me to brew another batch like it.

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

I guess my problem is premature defermentation. :o Yeah I thought about that, but after a night to think about it, I wonder if it would have gotten a bit higher ABV and then a game of back sweetening would start. Mind you I didn't want something that could peel paint. That being said I am...

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Well I went for it. I just pulled the airlock and did a test with the hydrometer. With a little help from the calculator on here I should have 6.8% hard cider. As for taste (mind you this was from the sampling) it was quite tart and dry with a champagne after taste (from the yeast). It's not...

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Airlock is showing about 48 bubbles per minute. I think it might be time to think about getting a jug ready for my cider.

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Yeah I already have plans for the 5 gallon brew bucket I got from my local HBS. The first gallon was really a "self test" to see if I could do it. About the second day of fermentation a strange thing happened... My brew bucket started saying, "Use me. Use me Red." And then I was at Sprout's and...

Once you're done fermenting are you doing a second stage, or back sweetening any?

First batch and I have mixed feelings on the results

Well she's brewing just fine. I've noticed a slight reduction in my jug. I also noticed it has a unique smell at this point. I guess I need to read up on finishing the process.
