    BeerAlchemy 2.1.4 Installer?

Does anyone have, or have a reputable link to a BeerAlchemy 2.1.4 installer? I have a license, but the installer in no longer available on the App Store, or any reputable sites that I can find. I only have an older installer saved locally, and it is not Catalina compatible. I have my data folder...

MGD 64 is the greatest beer EVAH...

... according to my SWMBO. Jesus F_cking CHRIST this sh!TT is BAD!! I'm thinking O'Douls has more flavor than this crap. It's like carbonated water with a couple flakes of beer-like flavor crystals added to each bottle. Also kinda tastes like apple juice. Went to a function the other night...

    Is Safelager S-23 this bad?

OK, I'd been wanting to try this yeast, so I brewed up a batch of Pilsner that I normally use with Wyeast 2112 California Lager. I normally don;t worry about temps too much with the 2112 yeast. Normal basement temps anywhere from 60-65 work well. I figured I'd need to keep things a bit cooler...

Controlling a boil with a PID

I have read a lot of posts talking about operating an Electric Boil kettle using a PID in manual mode by adjusting the duty cycle up or down to control a boil. Why can't you just set the temp at 212 or a little higher, and let the PID do the work?

Planning an Electric HLT / Boil pot. Need advice on elements & controllers

I've been searching for hours, but still can't find the answers I'm looking for. Can anyone help me out with Electric water heating for Dummies? :D I want to build an electric HLT / Boil Pot. I want to use 240V. I love the All in 1 simplicity and cost of the Ranco controller and the ability to...

How long of a mash is actually necessary?

I always do 60 min mashes. I never do use an iodine test, but plan on getting some for next time. I read in John Palmer's site that the starches may be converted after 30 min, why continue the mash for another 30? Once the starches are converted to sugars, what else is there left to be done? I...

Oops I added way too many hops to my brew. What now?

Brewed a Pale Ale using BM's Nierra Sevada recipe as a starting point. I made a Hop substitute for Perle to what I had on hand, and tinkered with the grain bill a little. I wanted something in the neighborhood of SNPA, but different. 8lb 2-row 1lb Carmel 60L .5lb Carapils .5oz Chinook...

Help with a No Sparge Stout Recipe

OK, I'm wanting to do a Bigger Stout for one of my next batches, however my brewpot is only a 7 gal, so a typical mash plus proper sparge on a larger grain bill will exceed my boilpot capacity. So I thought I'd just up the grain bill a bit, and do a no sparge. I know my efficiency will suffer...

    American Lager West Coast Pilsner

My intention was to brew up something that my SWMBO and BMC drinking friends would enjoy. I wanted a light lager with a some actual flavor, and I wanted to use Cascade hops to set it apart from the standard Pils (hence the West Coast name). So far it's been a big hit. The SWMBO liked it (and...

Muntons Lager similar to Breiss Pilsen?

I'm trying to buy some bulk grain from my LHBS. They can't get Breiss Pilsen (even though they can get all other Breiss varieties), but they can get Muntons Lager in a 55 lb bag. Would this be similar to a Breiss Pilsen malt (L 1.0) or closer to Breiss 2-row (L 1.8)? I can't seem to find any...

Apfelwein, Cote Des Blancs and Bottle carbing

Wow there are so many damn posts on Apfelwein that I've been searching for over an hour now, brain is starting to get tired... still haven't found the answer to my question. I was planning on using the original recipe, only with Cote Des Blancs yeast to get a sweeter finish. Only problem is...

    Bottling in unconventional vessels

I've got 2 batches that should be ready for bottling in about 2-3 weeks. I was thinking of trying a few unconventional type of bottles for a small portion of each batch, and wandered what other people have tried or used. Mug handle type mason jars. Thought this would be a cool idea for a...

First AG batch in the books...

Well, my first AG batch was a little rocky, but successful nonetheless. Now I know what every means by getting your processes down first, then worry about the little details! My temp calculations (used the tastybrew.com online calculators) were nowhere close. 6.625 lbs grain bill 1.25 ratio...

Doing first AG batch on Sunday - a few questions...

OK, my first AG batch is set for Sunday. I'd like for you guys to help me review a few things so I know that I'm not missing something here. I've got a 36qt. El Cheapo mash tun (Braided SS hose type), along with a 7 gallon turkey fryer pot/burner I'll be doing a single infusion mash with a...

    Noob hop questions

OK, I've been out of brewing for about 7 years now. I've got about 6 extract batches under my belt way back when, but I basically just followed instructions without really understanding why I was doing what I was doing. What is the reasoning behind adding hops at different times in the boil? I...
