    Blow off for Better Bottle

Great suggestions guys. I have both an orange carboy cap (didn't realize I could get a tube into the larger hole, but I can). I have quite a few three piece airlocks too, so I guess I am good to go. Thanks all!!

    Blow off for Better Bottle

Does anyone have a decent homemade solution to fitting a blow off tube to a Better Bottle? I see they have specially drilled stoppers now for the Better Bottle, but I need something RIGHT NOW!

    My dog ate my stash...

Nothing like a little Cheech and Chong! Except, unlike Chong, I will just buy more grain.

    My dog ate my stash...

Agreed, he'd have a lot more problems then just getting his arse beat. Luckily my hops are chilling in the freezer. Hopefully he won't learn to open doors.

Here's the main culprit. Boy I wish I had Photoshop!

    My dog ate my stash...

of specialty grains. I got all my brew gear out and was about to get my steeping water going when... ...WTF! Where are the grains?! I had left them on the kitchen table with other brew stuff that came in the mail the previous day. Hmmm, maybe I put them somewhere else. Wrong! Could the...

Looking for Edmund Fitzgerald Extract Recipe

Holy Crap that was quick!! I was just reading this nice document on converting all grain to extract and figured out to use 8 lb. LME and just half the rest of the grain bill...you beat me to it though! I do have one other question though. Do I just steep the specialties at 150-155 F...

Looking for Edmund Fitzgerald Extract Recipe

Anyone have an extract recipe for the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter? I know there are recipes all grain but I don't know how to convert these.

    Temperature changes and clarity

I would like to get some general thoughts and experiences with the following area: I have noticed that lagering my Pale Ales for a few weeks after carbonation has basically made them crystal clear in a glass, as opposed to cloudy if I would just take them from room temp and chill for a few...

Ahh, the power of this forum. I looked at a bunch of company websites for this stuff but was not aware of these. Thanks guys!

Great Western crystal malt (15 degrees L)

Does anyone know where I can get this stuff? I've looked around online, but can't seem to find it. I find that certain grains are particularly difficult to find, even with the current performance of today's search engines.

    Trellis Designs?

Check out this nice design made with redwood. It allows lowering of the bines for easier harvesting. Wait for the pics to load and the trellis is on the bottom of the page. http://www.picobrewery.com/hopgardn.html

    Growing hops near tomatoes.

I don't know if it's actually true but I remember reading about it a long ways back. Basically it will look like hops, but supposedly contain the active compounds of its nearest relative. I bet grafting of any nature is a fairly tricky endeavor. Why don't you give it a try and report back...;)

    Growing hops near tomatoes.

It has been said that Humulus *****us can actually be grafted onto the root system of its only near relative, thereby masking the appearance, but still packing the punch if you know what I mean. Apparently it cannot be grafted the other way around though.

    Hops root system

Well I've managed to dig up this info from freshops.com "Plant 1 rhizome per hill with the buds pointed up and cover with 1 inch of loose soil. Hills should be spaced at least 3 feet apart if the hills are of the same variety and 5 feet apart if they are different. " I think it is recommended...

    Hops root system

I am curious if anyone with direct experience can shed some light on this. I was wondering what the life cycle of the root system is like. How much does the rhizome expand? I assume the root system grows horizontally (or do they grow vertically?) , but how much do they expand from the...
