Does SG of 1.000 or less mean no carbs?

So I'm trying to start a new diet which is low carb. As a casual wine drinker and brewer, I'd like to continue to have a couple glasses now and then without sending my carb count too high. I typically drink dry red so I'm ok the right track but I'm curious about what the actual carb count is if...

Use of on/off valves as modulating

Thanks for the detailed response! The valve is exactly the one you show, actually. I wish I could find a better control method (something like a V-port ball valve) as I believe you will be correct in that controlling will be a very tight range. I've got this temperature sensor, which I've...

Use of on/off valves as modulating

I'm hoping to get an analog signal to my arduino, then have the output based on a calculation. Then have a current to open and current to close.

Use of on/off valves as modulating

Hey all, Been wondering if its possible to use a standard on/off ball valve and by turning the power on and off to it quickly turn it into a regulating valve. Idea is that since the valve takes ~5s to shift, I could turn the power on and off at a frequency that would keep the valve at a...

First atempt at Dragon's Milk Clone

Well I racked last night and put all the chips in, before I had a chance to read these comments (now I wish I had waited!) Hopefully the flavor isn't too much. The color was light vs what I was expecting, but they may have been due to the extra water. I'm still a little high on the volume. The...

First atempt at Dragon's Milk Clone

We took the gravity reading with only about 15 min left in the boil and at that point I kinda of "guestimated" how much more was going to evaporate off. In hindsight maybe I am lucky it came out so close. I probably could have done so (add the gravity adjustment earlier), but the guy who...

First atempt at Dragon's Milk Clone

Hey all, So I've seen a few people talk about their attempts at DM. Last weekend my buddy and I attempted to give it a go. Here is the recipe we used (based on Ohiodad's: 12.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 78.02 % 1.50 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 9.75 % 0.63 lb Chocolate Malt...

First big beer first 5g all grain

I'd be curious to hear how this brew turned out. Was looking to do a dragonsmilk clone this weekend (all grain) and follow in your foot steps. I was going to double batch sparge to try and hit >1.080. How close to Dragonsmilk did it turn out? (huge fan of the stuff!) I was wondering if any...

Replacing grain with extract - conversion help

Awesome response, much appreciated:mug:! A lot more information than I expected, which is always a good thing!

Replacing grain with extract - conversion help

haha, well my thought is that those conversion numbers must be somewhat accurate otherwise you'd hear peoples OGs and FGs turned out different than they expected. I suspect it would be a per brewer calculation, as depending on your tun and method you will result in different efficiencies.

Replacing grain with extract - conversion help

Hey all, So I've read that when you replace malted grain with extract, there is a pound to pound conversion. The numbers I've read at .65 for DME and .75 for LME (can anyone vouch for these?) but my question is do I need to use a multiplier for tun efficiency? For example, I would add 7...

    1 Gallon Modular Kegs

alright guys, thanks for all the good feedback and ideas. For now, it seems the idea of cheaply produced modular 1-gal kegs is being held back by the price of fittings (assuming I make it backwards compatible with standard cornys.) I'll keep looking around for better deals. For now, I'll use...

    1 Gallon Modular Kegs

Zubius, I'm liking that setup but I'm running into the same problem. Fittings are driving the cost up the most. I'd really like to stick with standard pin or ball lock fittings so it's compatible with someone's home brew cornys. Does anyone know a good place to get the lock posts and relief...

    1 Gallon Modular Kegs

A guy and I at work have a design that would make a modular 1 gallon keg assembly. It would fit five 1-gal kegs in roughly the same space as a 5 gallon corny. The idea would be that you could fill a gallon keg from your gallon carboy, enjoy your ~12 beers without needing to bottle. Once...
