    Question for parents that brew

My kids (6, 5, 2.5) help me out a lot on brew day. If I tried to brew when my kids weren't around I would hardly ever get to brew. Kids want to be around their parents and I think it's good for kids to see their parents doing something they enjoy. Hopefully we're just creating another generation...

Pound O' Hops: Imperial IPA Recipe

What is your pre-boil volume going to be? I usually shoot for a 7.25-7.4 gal pre-boil volume when I brew beer like this if I want to end up with 5 gallons.

    wyeast 1056 double IPA

More than likely for a double IPA. Or make a yeast starter. Depending on what you OG is and how old the smack packs are you could probably just pitch two packs. Happy Brewing!

    From Grain to Glass

Very nice experience dealing with GTG. Brad seems very motivated to provide superb customer service. He sent me an e-mail confirming that my order to make sure that I hadn't double ordered some malt. I had double ordered on purpose but a lot stores would not have checked and taken the money. GTG...

For how many days do you guys dryhopp on average?

I use pellets to dry hop and normally only leave the beer on the hops until the pellets dissolve. The best hop aroma I have achieved was when I dry hopped for only 24 hours. Usually for an IPA I'm dry hopping with 4 oz. and it has never taken more than 3 days for the hops to dissolve.

    Black IPA?

From one of my trusted sources (BYO, Zymurgy, Brewing Network) I recall hearing that doubling the amount of dry hops that go into an American IPA gives fantastic aroma characteristics. Just a thought since you have 15 oz. of Simcoe nectar.

Need some help on my American Pale Ale

How many oz. do you have? You could split it into 2 batches depending on how many oz you have. As far as contact time, I usually rack the beer to a secondary vessel at day 14 or whenever the yeast has finished its work and then add the dry hops on top of the beer and wait for the hops to...

Need some help on my American Pale Ale

You likely got plenty of bittering from the ounce of 7Cs at 75 minutes, but this beer will probably have restrained aroma and hop flavor with 1, one ounce addition at 10 minutes. Hop flavor and aroma seems to be best achieved by adding hops 20 minutes or later in the boil You could try dry...

    Caliente hops?

Took the first draw off of a Caliente/Columbus hopbursted IPA last night. Very nice aroma, reminiscent of Citra. Not as tropical as Citra, leans more to the stonefruit side. Lemon and lime aftertaste, blends nicely with the pine and citrus of the Columbus hops. Get a slight sulfur note in the...
