White stuff floating on top of beer in bottle. still ok?

Thanks guys! I had one last night and it tasted good. I figure I probably would be tested it if it went bad. And extra bonus: I'm still alive this morning!

White stuff floating on top of beer in bottle. still ok?

Hi. Here is a picture of the top of a bottle of beer I just pulled out of my fridge. This was a Gose recipe that had both lacto the and brett added to it before primary fermentation. It was brewed in April and turned out very well. I should of had them already but forgot about them. But there...

Stella bottles ok for reuse in homebrewing?

As an experiment, I just tried to use the wing capper for a couple of them and it wouldn't work. Is there a specific type of bench capper I should be looking for? My search on Amazon and eBay seems to bring up the super Agata every time. Not sure if this will do the trick but the Amazon...

Stella bottles ok for reuse in homebrewing?

I have a friend who drinks a lot of Stella and offered me a good regular supply of free empty bottles. Does anyone have any positive/negative experience with these? I figure they are mass produced on a global scale ... just want to make sure there are no quality (cheapness) issues before I put...

First Sour Beer - wisdom sought

Thanks for the explanation. You definitely got me thinking! I think your plan sounds good. My recipe is from Charlie Papazian and doesn't involve mixing or anything. According to it you put it in the primary for 10 days and then to secondary for 2 weeks and then bottle. But there's a warning...

What Brewers Best Extract Kits do you like?

I just tried it again today (now 4 wks after bottling) and it is significantly better ... Very good now. I can't wait to see how the flavor evolves.

Bottling beer in wine bottles - has anybody tried it?

I wish I did. That would be ideal! I have everything in the garage which can be hosed out. I'm thinking of starting with ONE bottle to see what happens so I don't lose a whole batch AND have to clean up 5 gal of beer and glass.

Bottling beer in wine bottles - has anybody tried it?

Haha, not quite the same thing, but I understand your perspective. :mug: "the reports" you mention are exactly what I was looking for. It may just be an issue of me looking in the wrong place for who's tried and reported their results (which is why I started the thread). I seem to remember...

Bottling beer in wine bottles - has anybody tried it?

How did you seal the bottle? Just reuse the cap?

Bottling beer in wine bottles - has anybody tried it?

Yes, I'm sure you're right that the cork could pop out, so I'll come up with a plan (some sort of "cage" out of wire or string probably) to keep it in. Seems like something I could play with at night while the kids are sleeping. Are you the mythical brewer I've been searching for who's tried...

First Sour Beer - wisdom sought

I'm very satisfied, actually. Especially considering I'm a beginner. First was a Kolsch and second the Witbier. Neither is really ready for drinking yet but everything seemed to go *almost* exactly according to plan. And I've had fun! :) I see your point, but really don't mind tying up a...

First Sour Beer - wisdom sought

Thanks! Unfortunately, thanks to my inexperience here, I don't think I followed you very well: So you are going to 1) start fermenting 5gal with ale yeast, 2) rack half to one secondary, 3) rack other half to another secondary and add brett and bugs, and 4) then in 6 mo. recombine for...

What Brewers Best Extract Kits do you like?

I just bottled the kolsch a week ago (my very first brew). It was easy to make. I gave it two weeks in the primary and a month in secondary and now waiting for the carbonation is making me insane. :) it looked beautiful though.

What Brewers Best Extract Kits do you like?

I'm curious how you like the witbeer. I just made that kit and tried it 3 weeks after bottling and was a little bit underwhelmed. Now I'm trying to wait longer to allow the flavors to mesh a little more. Overall I thought it was good but not great. But I'm hoping the flavor will improve with a...

First Sour Beer - wisdom sought

I'm about to brew my first sour beer: a Gose. I've only brewed two brewers best extract kits up to now so I'm kind of a beginner. Someone gave me an extract recipe that uses both brett and Lactobacillus. apparently I add both with the weihestephan ale yeast at fermentation time. Otherwise it...

    Temp Controlled Refrigerator question.

It's working perfectly now. Here is a picture of the setup. The fan made all the difference.

    Temp Controlled Refrigerator question.

I just made one more addition to my setup: I wanted a cheap small circulating fan to move the air around the fridge while heating or cooling. Found an Arctic brand usb fan on Amazon for $6 and connected to an old usb phone charger plugged inside the fridge and it works beautifully! Also a...

fermenter conditioning length of time for small fermenters

Bur wouldn't the amount of yeast decrease proportionally with the volume of beer to clean up, and thus have no effect on time?

Please help me save my kolsch!

Thanks. I checked the gravity after one week and it was at 1.008 so I think the yeast is done. I'll give it two in the secondary I guess.
