Help with magic hat dream machine

I have scoured the internet for a recipe for one of my favorite beers, Dream machine by magic hat. It's an Amber style lager IPA. For me it doesn't fit the IPA mold as it has a fairly strong malty thick body and hop is kinda low profile. What I did find from magic hats website is the base...

    keg vs kettle

I'm planning a 1/2bbl system in the near future. Would be bigger but space is something I have little of. I've read some information about converting kegs for the HLT, MT and BK but the grain bed can be pretty packed when maximizing the batch. Regular kettles I believe are wider. Kegs are...

adding canned apricots and sugar question

I'm adding apricot to a not quite pale before bottling. Question is, on the can shows 3 grams of sugar and 3.5 servings per can. I'm guessing if the corn sugar ratio for carbing isn't right I could end up with bombs. Is this type of sugar and that amount a problem?

    First bottle bomb

Sitting at the kitchen table and behind me an explosion goes off like a shotgun. Scared the living bejeesus out of me. Found glass imbedded in the ceiling. I put cola extract in one of the brews at the bottling stage, apparantly thats a no no.

Boil off 1 gallon batch vs. 10

Is there any negative effects brewing a 1 gallon batch compared to 10? The question came to me while making a small batch. For 1 gallon brews the boil off is 50% of the total wort. For 10 gallons its 1/10th the total wort. Does it matter since its just water vapor?

    consistent final gravity issue

I have done 3 or 4 all grain batches from stouts to ambers in the last month, I have been getting my target OG or atleast acceptable range from 1.050 and above depending on the style. Such as a belgian getting 1.070 and a brown at 1.050. I leave it alone in the fermenter for atleast 3 weeks at...

Anyone try two different mash temps in seperate tuns for same batch?

I have a recipe that calls for different mash temps, acid rest, sacc rest etc. My tun isnt the best for temp controls, would be nearly impossible to go from 135 to 165 with a few quarts of boiling water and I dont have a heater coil but I do have two cooler tuns. Would it matter much by using...

    Help with recipe please :)

Still new at brewing and have half dozen brews under my belt, some better than others. I tried an irish red from the sebago brewing company and absolutely loved it. Im looking at making something similar, sweet, malty and smooth. I looked through the grain characteristics and have an idea but...

    Questions adding fruit to secondary

A Frambozen brew idea came my way and found a lot of information with so many different ways to make one recipe work. My questions are if I add lets say a pound per gallon frozen mush of raspberries to secondary, rack on top of that, 1.) do i need to add more yeast to break down the sugars or...

Anyone know micron size of jumbo tea ball?

I came across the hop infuser thread and great to see a local vendor making mesh hop infusers. I typically make 1 gallon batches and the tea ball approach seems more economical for me. The 300 micron mesh sounds like the best size for hops and was wondering if anyone knows the mesh size for a...

    Ideas on mash process

I had an idea to help increase efficiency and get the most out of the grains for a typical 5 gallon batch. When I look at the grain bed in the mash tun, theres quite a bit above the water line and unless you can continuosly stir the grains, my thought is that there will be some loss. So why not...

    Newb first batch questions

Just finished 3 gallons of a newcastle all grain clone in the fermenter. Just have a few questions about some things that came up unexpectedly. The strike water I got to about 180 ish and once all the grains were in the cooler converted mash tun, got to 155, liitle lower than I wanted but still...

Recipe wanted for dirty beer (slang for guiness and pepsi in these parts)

I was hoping to get some help on a recipe that would have the typical guiness clone ingredients and add the pepsi flavor. My buddies love dirty beers as theyre called and a favor has been brought forth. I know I can get cola from the health food store for use in home remedies for naseua and...
