Equipment costs, and should I take a class?

My husband and I want to expand into all-grain brewing. Our local brew shop guy said it's probably a good idea to take the class they offer, which is $20 a person. I think they are very knowledgeable, and could be fun, but is it worth it to spend $40, or is it simple enough to learn the method...

    Thermometers and Frozen Beer

I have two questions! 1. What's the best thermometer to have in a kegerator? I have a Kegco brand, and I was thinking to mount one inside. Is a regular fridge thermometer good or is there something better for a kegerator? Any particular brands/models? Currently the only thing I have is the...

    Advice on kegerator faucets?

Thanks! So how frequently would you say is necessary to clean Perlick 525s?

    Advice on kegerator faucets?

Hope ya'll can help me understand why my faucets keep breaking... The tower with 3 faucets was purchased with the kegerator as a package deal from beveragefactory.com almost a year ago. I didn't know much about faucet-ology and didn't think to upgrade to Perlick faucets, or stainless steel...

    Bottling from a never-tapped keg?

b-boy-- Is this something you'd normally do for bottling instead of throwing in some straight corn sugar, or is there a specific reason you're suggesting this for my situation? In any case...I'll look into it, thanks!

    Bottling from a never-tapped keg?

Haven't force carbed the keg-- it's just sitting there with a blanket of CO2 on top. I have a counter pressure filler that I haven't used yet, but I don't want to tap the beer if I can naturally carbonate it. Just seems like a pain; I don't need to drink these beers right away. Plus, doesn't it...

    Bottling from a never-tapped keg?

Yeah, I'm too lazy to mess with that for 100 bottles. Thanks though-- good to know it's not too late to do it the old fashioned way.

    Bottling from a never-tapped keg?

So...I have two kegs waiting to be tapped, but the thing is, I really don't want to tap them. I want to bottle them instead. Already went through two very similar beers on tap and I'm sick of sweet and malty! I want to put them in bottles like the old days and save my taps for stuff I can...

    Secondary Cap Popped...Any advice?

Thanks guys! So my brew shop guy lied to me...I asked if I should be using a stopper or an airlock and he said a stopper is ideal because you don't want oxygen getting in at that point. Luckily I was using a plastic Better Bottle so there was no explosion! Would it be better to just put it in...

    Secondary Cap Popped...Any advice?

I'm brewing an IPA and this is the first time I've racked to a secondary. It seemed like the fermentation was complete when I moved it over to a 5gal carboy, threw in some hops and put on a closed stopper (no airlock). I stuck it in the garage and went away for the weekend. When I came back, the...

Does priming sugar play a role when bottling from a keg?

I have 6... :) 3 tap kegerator, 3 back ups. But 2 of the back ups are filled with burnt versions of the two heavy ones we have on tap...That holiday malt-fest and a scotch ale. My husband refuses to toss them (I guess I do too, they weren't cheap...). And half of our beer drinking friends still...

Does priming sugar play a role when bottling from a keg?

Yeah, maybe I should go half and half with some batches. This one was one of my first on tap and I was all excited and feeling festive, I guess. I have no patience!

Does priming sugar play a role when bottling from a keg?

That's what I'm trying to do, but I'm pretty sure I won't want to return to the first keg of beer on tap. It's a 10.4% thick holiday ale. My friends don't exactly chug down several of them... Plus I want to keg something else soon. :)

Does priming sugar play a role when bottling from a keg?

I'm sick of the beer I have on tap and want to bottle from a keg, and the guy at my local homebrew store showed me a counterpressure filler he made, which looks easy enough to use but I've heard about beer not lasting very long that way. So I was wondering...If I removed the keg from the co2...

    Beer Blowback into co2 Line

    Thanks guys.

    Beer Blowback into co2 Line

I over-pressurized my keg trying to carb it and beer came back all the way through the co2 line and started foaming out of the manifold. I corrected the problem, do I now need to sanitize the co2 line and/or the manifold, or can that wait until I change kegs? Thanks!

    Serving pressure basics?

I have my (first ever) three kegs all hooked up, and they are slow carbonating (I hope that's the correct term) for a few weeks at 12-13 psi (no priming sugar). The fridge temp is 48F for the time being. I've taken samples of the beers every few days and it seems like the carbonation is coming...
