Avantco IC3500 Induction Burner Hacked by an Arduino

The only thing I didn't have on hand was the RTD board (~$10) and LCD displays (~$10). I was able to fix the voltage issue I was having by adding a few opto-isolators between the Arduino and the burner. I then powered the Arduino using a separate power supply. But, when I was verifying the fix...

Avantco IC3500 Induction Burner Hacked by an Arduino

Well... After mounting the arduino inside the case I now have straight 240 vac from the ground of the arduino to the case... It however isn't happening all the time... Not really sure what's going on as I didn't see or feel this before and trust me I would have known as the pot is also 240 to...

Avantco IC3500 Induction Burner Hacked by an Arduino

I have been able to get the Avantco IC3500 Induction Burner working with an Arduino using a PID loop! Let me first give credit to the folks over at Openschemes for initiating this hack: http://openschemes.com/2011/04/28/manual-control-of-the-1-8kw-induction-cooktop/ Without them I wouldn’t...

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Anyone have a broken IC3500 sitting around? I think I fried my control board this past weekend by touching a switch to chassis ground! :( PM me if you do! Lucky I could finish brewing outside! :mug:

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Automatic Control with the Avantco burner... Sure? Anything can be automated with a slight hack (right)?!?! I have been working on this for a while now (OK, more thinking), and one may say it's still at the "idea" stage... But with two young kids I barely have time to brew! Anyway, here...

    Induction Setup Issues

Tried two steel plates with no success. Going to be getting the IC3500, like I should have in the first place! Thanks for the help! P.S. I will be posting my two IC1800's in the for sale section soon...

    Induction Setup Issues

I think I would still have to keep the lid on which is what I'm trying to avoid. Agreed on the spacing, but the pot is just touching the burner causing it to glow red (or blue in the picture taken from my phone). I figure it could get to a boil with only one burner but would still be...

    Induction Setup Issues

I would like to stick with my pot for now. That is a good idea about trying to sell them here… I was thinking Craig’s list but was afraid there wasn’t much of a market. I was talking about the aluminum frame of the burners. The pot is stainless.

    Induction Setup Issues

Hey Guys Looking for some advice... As you can see from my setup I have two Avantco IC1800's and a large 15 gallon pot. I plan on doing 5 Gallon BIAB batches and was advised to go big or go home (just incase I wanted to do a 10 gallon batch)! :D With this setup I was able to boil 7...
