Average Joe to Brewing Pro - My two years of brewing school.

From another former pro, this is the best synopsis of the challenges inherent in the brewing industry, and your story is all too common, unfortunately. There are a lot of amazing and brilliant people and a lot of very challenging people, like all industries, but somehow it hurts more in craft...

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

Very interesting. Do you have any issues with clarity or do you get sufficient flow through the grain bed to end up with clear wort? That would be my only concern with the technique, but if you've got that figured out and are getting consistent extraction over 80% then kudos!

    Spike Solo Owner's Thread

After a long hiatus from brewing (went from home brewer, to pro, to failed pro, and now back to home brewing, that's for another thread), and exhaustive research on the state of home brewing today, the Spike Solo+ 20g was my choice! I've watched every video and trolled every thread and it just...

    brewershardware jacketed coni+glycol ?'s

Hate to resurrect this too far off topic, but I just ordered the BH 15G conical and would love to know what freezer that is, it's the perfect size.

How much wort and "gunk" left after whirlpool?

I'm typically losing about a half gallon depending on the recipe and the amount of hop and break material there is left. Two factors that can affect the volume is how long you whilpooled for and how long you let it sit prior to siphoning off the wort. Maybe try letting it sit for 15 min or...

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

Good observation on how they connect to the top tier system. I hadn't thought about the original purpose for those burners.

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

hepkat, any concern with just 4 bolts bearing the weight of the kettles? I debated a similar design with my blichmann burners and decided to build it so the frame was supporting the burners from the bottom. There was a reference earlier to the weight capacity of the bolts, but wanted to see...

Single Tier Build - Stout HERMS

I appreciate it. I've been primarily going off a couple of PJs schematics for the wiring. I've also been trying to understand your temp monitoring as well. Looks like you have a temp probe on the input and the output for the MT and another in the thermowell for the HLT. Is there a specific...

Single Tier Build - Stout HERMS

Great build! I'm finishing up my planning on a very similar rig now and had a couple of questions. 1. Curious about using the 2 different chugger pumps 2. Any chance you have a parts list 3. Any chanced you have a wiring diagram for the control panel 4. Where did you source the 8020 I...

    Danby DCF550W1 keezer build

Super sleek look, I dig the black with the stained wood. What type of paint did you use?

Keezer Build GE 7 CF (FCM7SUWW)

Looks great! I'm in the beginning of my planning stages and I like the design approach. Any chance you could post a parts list? Sub'd!

    Pumpkin in mash

I put 3.5 lbs of roasted fresh pumpkin in the mash and saw only a .001 bump, which could easily have been for any number of reasons. There just aren't enough sugars to make a significant difference (that's why there's so much sugar in a pumpkin pie recipe). I've never done it in the boil, so...

    Clogged bazooka

Here's the link to the one I got on amazon. All SS, and easy to clean.

    Clogged bazooka

Hop spider changed my life. Cleanest batch into my fermenter ever. My bazooka in the BK always got clogged with pellet hops, whole leaf not so bad, but if you're using pellet hops, the spider is the way to go.

has anyone tried the brewers best oatmeal stout kit

So apparently this is just a crazy fast yeast! I just took the FG reading and we're at 1.020! Just never would have believed it would have finished so fast. So I am just guessing that I did sufficient oxygenation (more than 3 minutes of very vigorous shaking and swirling), re-hydrated the...

    Another HERMS is born...

Amazing build! Any chance you'd be willing to share the parts list? Specifically I'm interested in the parts and wiring process for the control panel. I'm contemplating a very similar set up and this is the only part I can't find anything really definitive on. Really nice work.

has anyone tried the brewers best oatmeal stout kit

So it seems that after 48 hours, my stout has seriously either run out of steam or finished in record time. I'm taking a reading tonight to see if I had the same problem, so I'll post and let you know. The S-04 should arrive today and if I'm high on the FG (which I just have a feeling I am)...

has anyone tried the brewers best oatmeal stout kit

My ferm room (basement bathroom) stays consistently 63-65. Still going strong as of this morning, so finger's crossed. I'll try and post some photos tonight. As an aside bd, I saw you have the Petite Saison in primary. I just kicked a keg of it yesterday. It was a big hit a our 4th BBQ...
