I'm moving my operation out of the kitchen and into the garage because I recently picked up a Blichmann burner with legs. I also just fitted my kettle with a ball valve and side pickup tube. Since I no longer have the advantage of high counters, how high off the ground do you think I'll need...

    Brew-pot Drill Help

I just spent a half hour attempting to drill a hole in my brew-pot and barely made a dent. I kept it well oiled and the drill speed on low. Any suggestions on who may provide drilling services? Can I go to Lowes or Home Depot? Do welders do this type of stuff? Thanks!

    Carbonation fail

Just brewed a RIS with 2 cups of Bulleit Bourbon and an ounce of dark brown oak wood chips. Out of the secondary it tasted like heaven. Didn't want it too carbonated so I only added 2.5 oz of priming sugar in one cup of water. 5 gallon recipe. A week later absolutely no carbonation what so...

I have a tasty RIS that just finished fermenting. I have about 2 ounces of dark oak chips soaking in 2 cups of Bulleit Bourbon. Thoughts on the amounts? If I dump the whole Jar into the secondary will I have Bourbon that tastes like a RIS or vice versa? Recommendations for a good ratio are...

    All grain OG

After 6 successful extract batches I brewed my first all grain batch. I was fired up when I took a hydrometer and hit my OG. Now that I think about it there was a bunch of trub/crap in my tube when I took my reading. Now I'm thinking my OG and efficiency was off due to the gunk floating. Is...

    Full boil- for stouts

On this board I hear a lot about the benefits of a full boil. Specially for the purpose of hop utilization. If brewing a stout or any hop light beer is there any advantage to a full boil? The reason I ask it it's much easier and quicker to bring wort to pitch temperature when adding to chilled...

    Blow off tube size

About to brew a high OG double IPA (1.070-1.074). For the other batches I've brewed (brown ale) a three piece airlock with bottling tubing has been sufficient for a blow off tube. Do I need to go bigger for this one? It's a 5 gallon batch in a 6.5 gallon fermenter.

    Blow off tube size

Brewing a high OG (1.070-74) double IPA (5 gallons in a 6.5 gallon fermenter). Am I ok using an airlock (standard 3 piece) with tubing sticking out or should I buy a bigger bung with a larger diameter tube?

    Operation Trub Reduction

Brewers, I'm going to brew the Pliny Clone from moorebeer.com shortly. I'm on the fence of methods of how to minimize trub loss. I did a gallon batch of a similar recipe from my LHBS and only yielded approximately 64 oz. with cold crashing. To get best results do I? 1. Use hop bags? 2...

    Is this an infection

Brewers, Does this look like an infection or anything I should worry about? It's strong ale that's been in my primary for 13 days (first 5 gallon batch). I tasted some and it was real boozy to say the least. My question is should I bottle today (one day early) to limit any further...
