Cleaning technique: SS Brewtech Chronical w/ chiller attached?

My stainless steel conical at home controls fermentation with an immersion coil similar to the chronical, but coolant plumbs in and out from the top/lid. I used to sanitize my fermentation vessel thoroughly with idophor, but now I only clean it once every 3-5 brews. My batch size is 20 gallons...

Do you really need the 60 minute boil?

I've been brewing for quite some time already and my favorite style to brew are IPAs. I always late hop my IPAs, like 15-10 minute additions and was really wondering if it is really necessary to boil the wort for a full hour. Has anyone tried brewing a late hopped IPA and boiling it for say...

    Lagering under pressure

Have you guys ever noticed any difference when lagering beers under-pressure and without? On my last batch of regular brown ale (US-05, no finings, NOTHING), I filled up 4 kegs from my conical and transferred them to my keezer to be carbonated (temp was 0c). I forgot to hook up one keg to the...

    Another Chill Haze Question...

Seems like the key is patience when using gelatin. I just checked my kegs again today and wow did it clear up.

    Another Chill Haze Question...

With ambient water temperature where i live, i could only chill my wort down to 100-110f. For this beer, i put w huge plastic buckets with water in my cold room and used it as y coolant. I got my wort temps down to 70-80f in my fermenter. However, I still had to wait overnight for my wort to...

    Another Chill Haze Question...

I think i can conclude now that water temperatures matter. Here is a picture of another beer i just kegged today. Its a different beer (lightly hopped) but with approximately identical gravity and brewing processes (ie. Temp, fermenting time, etc). I also used the yeast cake of the cloudy beer...

    Another Chill Haze Question...

Lol everything is fine and the beer tastes great. I never had a contaminated batch. An interesting find though this morning... i had a bit of beer left in my glass which was left overnight at room temp and in the morning the yeast dropped to the bottom of the glass and the beer was quite clear!

    Another Chill Haze Question...

    Another Chill Haze Question...

I think its just hazy. This one is a pale ale i made using S04. Primaried for 2 weeks then straight to keg for carbing at 32F for nearly 2 weeks already. My last batch using S04 + wort cooling down to 60F was much clearer.

11 days after my pitching and my mini batch look like this! Is it normal?

I am fermenting 65lt of beer in 100lt hdpe blue barrels and have never seen any activity in my airlock. Maybe the space is too much for the co2 to push up but i never had a problem

    Another Chill Haze Question...

Thought i would report back results. I tried this with a pale ale and only got the wort to 100d. I chilled it in my cold room for a day and pitched it. Fermentation was normal but i think the wort was more cloudy than i thought. I will cold crash it for a while and might use gelatin if it doesnt...
