I put my burner on a water heater stand, about 18" off the floor. I use a kettle with a valve on the bottom and the valve is just about the same height as the top of the FF when I transfer. I sometimes have to lift the kettle to speed the process but not until most of the wort is transferred so...

True confessions time: I tried it (don't judge!) but it was relatively ineffective. Also the vibrations tend to release dissolved CO2 so not a good idea. Time and gravity are the only things that work reliably. I also change the collection ball when fermentation is about 75% done. When the valve...

I put a large freeze pack on top of the fermenter, draped an old sleeping bag over the whole thing, then zipped it up. I changed the freeze pack every morning before work and every evening when I returned. Temperature stayed pretty steady at 64 - 66 degrees.

The valve is US Plastics Part No.60952, about $5. I also added a hose barb stem, Part No. 60919, about $1, to make it easier to dispense.

I did an IPA recently with almost 2 ounces of pellet hops for dry hopping. Before dry hopping I removed the collection ball and cleaned it out, then sanitized and reinstalled it. Then I just dumped the hops into the top of the fermenter - no bag necessary. A week later the hops had collected in...

My brother-in-law is a welder so I asked him to weld one end shut. I think you could also seal it with some silicone rubber sealant and crimp it in a vise. To make the seal in the fermenter lid I bought some silicone rubber grommets on eBay that were the right size for the tubing.

US Plastics part number is 63110. The SS probe is a homemade one. I use an inexpensive temperature controller (you can find them on eBay, Amazon, etc., for about $20) that has a sensor with 6 feet of wire. I bought some right-sized hypodermic tubing (eBay), sealed one end and put the sensor...

After my first batch I was impressed by the clarity of my beer and the ease of use. I've experienced some of the minor problems that others have posted here but overall it's been a good experience. I decided to make some modifications to suit my personal preferences. In my previous post I...

+1 on the terrible lid gasket. Anyone have a work-around?

    FastFerment conical

After a lot of back and forth emails with the manufacturer it seems that the stand design was changed to be more compact so it would fit in a fermentation chamber. So what you see in the pictures on the various vendor sites (the ball several inches off the floor) isn't what you get. In the...

Hmmm . . . looks like a bar stool with the seat cut off . . . I wonder if my wife would notice one missing? Seriously, thanks for all the help!

I guess it wasn't obvious to me that there were 2 sizes of stand. There is no way that this is a simple case of an o-ring or something. I had to prop it up on a couple of 2x4s to get the ball off. I'll contact the seller and see if they will swap it out for the taller one.

I paid the extra for the accessory stand but I'm very disappointed. The stand is too short - the entire weight of the tank is resting on the ball. And of course there is no space to remove the ball! Anyone else have this problem?

    Struggling Newbie from NOVA

Hello all, I've been brewing for a little over a year now with mixed results. Mostly do extract with specialty grains. I would like to go all-grain but before I make the investment in time and money I want to be sure of what I'm doing. I have done perhaps a dozen batches and three of them...
