Impact of freezing on Wyeast Pack?

I'm going to chime in on this too. I got two frozen/slushy Wyeast packs, a Ringwood ale and a 1056. I had emailed NB ahead of time since I knew they would be left outside before anyone was home. This is the response i got. "Freezing is actually less of an issue for liquid yeast than you might...

Vigorous fermentation on NB Porter for two days then nothing!

Quick update on this one, i done the rousing etc, just done a reading while transferring to secondary, has dropped to 1.032. Going to let it sit for a few more weeks then add the oak and bourbon. Will do a final update on bottling day :)

Vigorous fermentation on NB Porter for two days then nothing!

Cool, so sounds like i am on the right track. I'm not a bourbon drinker but in this case i'll make an exception :) Rousing, like giving the fermenter a swirl? I can do that, and can move to a warmer spot. My basement is around 65 but it is set to get cooler here for the next week or so. Can...

Vigorous fermentation on NB Porter for two days then nothing!

Thanks for the reply, i have no problem leaving it in the primary for a few more weeks. This is the biggest i have brewed so i am kind of anxious about it. Recipe calls for the addition of oak chips and 16 oz of bourbon at around the 4 week mark so was thinking of transferring to a bucket for...

Vigorous fermentation on NB Porter for two days then nothing!

Hi everyone, last weekend i brewed the NB Bourbon Barrel Porter kit. Made a starter with Danstar Windsor and pitched around 4:30pm, basement temp stays a fairly constant 65 to 67. It started going within 4 hours, then the next morning it was going like a mad thing. :rockin: When i got home...

    Bucket Blow Off

Here is my setup, i did use it on the strawberry wheat after adding the puree but it didn't get too crazy. I didn't have a plug for the airlock hole so i put in an airlock and put some cling film under the cap. Parts came from Lowes, hose is 3/4" ID, 1" OD ($1.61 per ft), i got 3' should of...

    Raspberry wheat questions

So i listened to that, and changed my recipe a little. A local grocery store was running a special on fresh strawberries $5.00 for 4lbs. So it ended up being a strawberry wheat :D. It was bottled this last weekend and tasted freaking awesome. Here's what i done. Added 1lb of raspberry...

    Bucket Blow Off

Got the brew into the primary yesterday, and as it happens i pitched Wyeast 1010. I think i best be getting to Lowes next weekend :-). BEFORE it goes into the secondary.

    Raspberry wheat questions

I have an NB wheat that went into primary yesterday. I'm planning to add some raspberries to a secondary. Could i go to a store and buy frozen or would it be better to get fresh then freeze, OR fresh and make a puree? So many options!

    Bucket Blow Off

Oh i'm sure, i just know my wife would be pissed if i let it blow out all over our basement. As an update, i tried all the tubing i have and it's either too larger to go through the grommet, or not large enough to go over the spout on the 3 part airlock. Will get something figured out though.

    Bucket Blow Off

Will try this too, i am looking at doing a wheat beer and adding some raspberry honey at the end of the boil, or doing some fruit addition later. By all accounts that can lead to some vigorous fermentation. Want to be prepared for it :D

    Bucket Blow Off

Thanks and yes, i got some 3/8 tubing for my bottle filler (which i don't like using) so could use that. I also have a 3 piece airlock, looks like i will be experimenting later :).

    Bucket Blow Off

Hi all, possibly a newbie question but i did use the search for a while and couldn't find anything. All i have for fermenting right now is buckets (tight budget). But after reading several threads i am thinking i may need to have some kind of blow off assembly for a bucket for some of the...

Lime Beer - What to use?

I can tell you what NOT to do. I recently made an NB American Wheat, to keep the wife happy with my new hobby i added 2 oz of Key Lime natural extract at bottling. I had bottled half the batch unflavored then added the extract and bottled the rest with the lime for her. It was wayyyy too...

    Hi all from Iowa

Hi everyone, i recently got into homebrew after getting back in touch with an old friend a few years ago. He had been brewing about a year and after more than a few "samples" over the last two years i have taken the plunge. My first brew, (with his assistance and equipment) was a batch of...
