Freezer with controller - ferment, lager and cold crash?

You will have to compromise somewhere. Personally, since I think fermentation temp is the most important than I would make that priority one and than base my beers off of that until you get another freezer. That or go with a cheap ice/heat bath setup for fermentation and use the freezer for...

    No brew activity after 24hrs

you didn't answer his question. No airlock activity, wouldn't worry about it.

What craft beer do you secretly despise?

You cant be serious? That is a top 5 beer for me...easy. No, I tend to agree with and I think Stone is losing a bit of ground. For example, their coffee milk stout is terrible. TERRIBLE. never would have said that 5 years ago about any of their beers.

    STC-1000 vs Johnson

This guy should also get a mention! http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=334 Took me awhile to find this guy so posting it for those that are still looking. I would have gone STC but dont trust my DIY skills. Been using the auber for awhile now...

    How long do you ferment?

How do you recommend purging a carboy with co2.

    How long do you ferment?

That is usually why I rack into a 5 gallon glass secondary with as little headspace as possible. Unless you are doing a pressurized transfer I am not sure that being to careful about oxygen is worth the effort as it's pretty unavoidable. My big beers have always tastes better with time but...

    How long do you ferment?

Stating what has already been said but this is generally my process: Depends on the gravity of the beer but in general none of my beers go less than 14 days. I mostly brew in the 5-7% range and let it sit in primary for a month. Bigger beers I age in a 5 gallon glass carboy for usually...

Mash tun insulated "jacket" idea for gravity system

Seems like a whole lot of work for something a cooler does a great job at. Why not build a gravity system and still use the cooler mashtun. Longevity won't be an issue, entry users of that system that have no issues.

    Blichmann BrewEasy

I wonder if the gas setup would do a better job of stabilizing temperature in the mash. Probably not a big difference since we are talking steel here but one heat source is outside the mash and one is inside the mash. Any first hand experience on accuracy of mash temp to ToP controler with gas...

    thermometer with memory for keezer?

Raspberry pi seems like a lot of work to figure out if I need a heat source in my freezer. At this point I may just have to get up at various points in the day/night and write down the temperature reading inside freezer. Cost effective but I do lose sleep :) Yes, I will be using the stc1000...

    thermometer with memory for keezer?

Any suggestions on a thermometer for my keezer that has built in memory. I am trying to decide if I need a heat source and I need to figure out how low the temps are getting at night.

    no time=no sparge setup?

Thanks guys! Some good points and I hadn't thought of smaller batches for bigger beers. Ultimately I think I just need to go back to batch sparging. I had read about the time savings with no spare without really thinking it through and while it will save some time it's really not enough.

    no time=no sparge setup?

History first: extract brewer to all grain. Life gets busy + kids and I went back to extract to save time. However, that was back when no sparging really wasn't a viable option. My question, with no sparging, I am concerned that I won't get the temperature gradient needed to extract the...

    Nashville Beer

Y'all are crazy but I guess that's why there are so many beers out there. Different strokes for different folks

    Norther Brewer specials (frustration)

Still a good deal. I'd just get the cheapest two and brew 10 gallons of beer. It's not that extract taste bad or anything.

    Ideal fermenting temp

depends:D On the taste I want and the yeast I am using and what stage it is in ;) Generally speaking though I stick to the lower end

HopsnCrafts, craftbrewed and flying saucer are probably the best places to drink at for craft beer. Check out reddogwinery and frugals for places to buy beer
