    N00b! First batch in the morning question. Coopers IPA.

    For the coopers kits i normally add 1kg dme and 500g brew sugar. Works well and makes a nice beer. your 3lb of dme should be fine to add it all as there is 2.2 lb to 1 kg and you have 3lb It will be fine to add the lot and you should end up with a og at around 0.040 or slightly higher.

    Should I cover the top of my bottling bucket?

    Well i have a cat so b4 i bottle anything i boot out the cat , Sanitize my whole work area + all equipment and bottles kegs. I always pop the lid but only slightly Leaving the bucket 99% covered, Dont want any floating cat hair in there. Note No Cats were hurt during this procedure

    Yeast Explosion

    You should be fine as the yeast will multiply in fermenter - and the starter White Labs vials do tend do explode as they do have some co2 in there. Best way is to give is a slight shake and open very slowly. Make the starter you will be fine.

    I think the Only way to tell is to sanitize the airlock Pop it back in - Let it ferment out ..Then pray it will be ok!

    When i dropped in my hydrometer the reading was the next mark after 1.000 so 1.002 .. that reading was at the top surface of the brew.
