Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Okay yet another update. Quite chocolatey at the finish, but pretty tasty none the less. I dry hopped with a half oz of centennial for a week. I'm going to pull my hop bag and hit it with a second dry hopping just for ****s and giggles. To try to get closer to the original beer I'm going to cut...

    Is this the right plant?

http://www.greatlakeshops.com/ Here is a very good place to go that many people here on HBT have bought from.

    You have no control!!!

Everybody knows this guy. His truck goes through more mud, hauling more wood, pulling a bigger trailer... Oh it's a Chevy too so don't be parking your old Dodge in his drive way. His rifle is better, shoots flatter and has taken more deer than that ratty ass old rifle that was passed down to you...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I have half a dozen different craft brews & imports in the fridge, but what am I drinking? You guessed it! Edwort's House Pale. Just a straight up good beer that you want to drink day after day.

    I love morning beers!

I don't let my woman tell me when I can and cannot drink so I sure as hell don't listen to a clock. ;)

    Founders Breakfast Stout with breakfast?!?

LOL looks like the breakfast I used to have 15 -20 years ago only I drank Labatt Blue as my daily flavor back then. I never frown on anyone for starting the day with a good beer. Good Beer - Good Day

    Still bubbling.

Isn't letting the remaining yeast clean up and settle out why we go to secondary?

    Still bubbling.

I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable brewer here, but if you want to rack it over to your secondary I wouldn't let a couple bubbles stop me. Not knowing what you brewed 1.014 doesn't tell me quite enough, but as a general rule for a large percentage of ales that's in the neighborhood of done.

    Nottingham Poll

I've had good success with Notty, but I have gotten some noticeable tartness when fermenting in the mid 60's. I have a beer that I brewed friday on Notty right now, but the basement was 55-56 deg. when I brewed. Right now it might be up to 60. I'm not afraid to use Notty at all this time of year.

Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Thought I'd throw a little update out on this beer. As stated above the OG was 1.070 Well just racked it from the secondary to a keg for a little carbing and took a reading and ended up with an FG of 1.012 so thats something like 7.6 ABV? My plan for this is to eventually dry hop with a half oz...

    lying thermometer!

TRUE I do stir often to try and combat this. About every ten minutes I give a good stir trying to keep the mash we mixed to ensure the temps are as consistent as I can get them.

    lying thermometer!

Thanks for the links. I've been trying to put a little more science into my seat of the pants style of brewing. Accurate measurements and Temps seem like a great place to start. Accuracy & Consistency = Known & Repeatable Results. ;)

    Sanitizing bottles...

Yep! I store my rinsed bottles upside down in the cases as above. When I need to bottle I submerge in a bucket of star san swirl an ounce or so as mentioned above and dump. I do a doz. or so then bottle and cap. Repeat. It's simple and I've never had a problem with my bottles or the beer in...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Working! I work every weekend, but have mon-thurs off unless I go in and work overtime. Thats why I'm always brewing mid week.

Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Okay so 16 days after brew day I have it cold crashing but no carb yet. It's flat but maybe that also lets me pick out some of the flavors better. Trying neglect the hops (Not all that easy to do) the best way I can describe the flavor is that it has a smoothly transitioning slight roast to...

    lying thermometer!

Is there any way to find out if a thermometer is accurate in the mash temp range? I ask this fully believing the answer is NO, but I'll ask anyway just in case my girl friend is right and I truly don't know everything.
