    What is turning blue?

Yup, I think that's pretty much exactly it. The blue would show up mostly on the cleaned surfaces, where I'd set something down for a moment, so I was either transferring it while working, or it had collected on a surface, and I was moving it around. It was only a few drops here or there ;)

    What is turning blue?

Ooh that makes a lot of sense WVMJ! Would also make sense why I would see it on the counter tops or spots where some of the cleaner might have splashed. I usually dunk the necks of the bottles, and pour the sanitizer inside rather than dunk the whole bottle, so that might explain it. All the...

    What is turning blue?

Thanks, sorry, yes. I used b-brite to clean, and then starsan after. I mention the b-brite since that was the only point where I did anything not as-instructed (I store all my brewing stuff in a box in the closet, so I give it all a wash when it comes out.) I figure a reaction to a sanitizer...

    What is turning blue?

Thankfully, I only rarely need to post on these lovely forums since lurking and searching topics answers most of my questions. Now, I am stumped, and so is the search bar. I bottled my first wine yesterday. It's the Winexpert World Vineyard French Cab. Everything went as expected per...

    Ginger Snap Brown Ale.

That was very much how I was thinking about doing it IsildursHeir, please update on progress! I don't have enough equipment to do all grain and i'm very curious how this will turn out in an extract kit! Anything beer gets called "cookie juice" sounds like a very good idea to me!

Does "Quick! Before something bad happens!" apply here?

Oh sorry! Yes, obviously should have mentioned, I would still take my readings to make sure the fermentation had stopped. I do not want bottle bombs, I like the interior of my closet too much for that. I know waiting is probably the right call, so I'll just keep repeating to myself "nothing...

Does "Quick! Before something bad happens!" apply here?

I'm on to my second beer! The first one (a stout I added a bit of coffee and chocolate to) turned out really well, and from my bottle-tests it is getting better every week. My second beer is a Honey Nut Brown Ale from Midwest. I've had some concerns about temperature since it's been humid and...

    Wyeast Smack

I just used a Smack Pack for the first time yesterday. It took me four tries smacking it to get it to go. I'm impressed!

    Bottling Day Check Lists?

I've read around in the bottling/kegging section and searched for bottling day threads... My first bottling day is fast approaching (Tuesday, my next day off). My stout will have spent four weeks in primary with more yeast added at two weeks thanks to my gravity sticking at .020 after a week...

Need to know best method for adding coffee to my stout

Stephonovich I cold brew my ice coffee for the summer and agree - it's just tons better than hot brewing and chilling. Got back from New Orleans not long ago, and have decided they rule the iced coffee world, and my kitchen can only hope to imitate! As far as my "method" beerman77, I only...

Need to know best method for adding coffee to my stout

Found this thread in an archive search - I'm looking to do the same and adding coffee in the primary since I'm not using a secondary. I mixed the two methods suggested above (pulsed the coffee in my grinder once or twice to get some of it broken up and added straight to the bucket). A also...

I know I am supposed to leave it alone and let it do it's thing.... But I am worried

This is exactly the same spot I'm in except I brewed a stout on Saturday. I am irrationally worried something is wrong even though I've still got days before I need to take a gravity reading. Airlock activity doesn't mean much/as long as your temp range is correct/the only way to know is take...

Who is your LHBS here in CT?

Hey all - I drove out to BMW yesterday since I was in Hartford for lunch and they were closed (oh well) and then thought I'd stop in Eli Cannon's new shop across the street from the Tap Room in Middletown since I live a couple blocks away, and that was closed to. I'm doing a great job learning...

There is beer in my closet

Those carboys are all dressed up for a night out! I'm not seeing much in the way of bubbles anymore but it's only been three days, and I'm perfectly happy to let it sit for a nice long time. Opened the lid for a look in on Day 2 and I had a ring on the bucket, but not much else (thankfully, it...

beginners kit for a wedding gift

I DID buy my friends a beginners brew kit as a wedding gift (actually for my friend's husband-to-be, she got a spa gift cert.) I played it safe and got him a gift cert to Midwest... he hasn't made beer yet though he did get himself a kit. I did a chat with them when I had a question and they...

There is beer in my closet

Revvy - my closet is already getting ideas! I only have the starter bucket, but maybe once I give it a real go, I'll graduate to a t-shirt-wearing carboy! Thanks for the link trevorc13, according to that, I do have less yeast than I need in the batch, so I'll see if I can grab another packet at...

There is beer in my closet

Or at least I hope so. I just want to give you all a big thanks - I have my first batch of beer fermenting in my living room closet at this moment. No clue if it'll actually be drinkable, but most importantly, it exists. I've done a ton of lurking and have upgraded my stupid questions to only...
