Using a barrel the second time... Hot water rinse?

I figure it won’t hurt to revive a 5 year old thread to see if anybody’s experience with this matter has changed? Especially considering the various barrel options we as homebrewers have compared to then, as the number of craft distillers has significantly increased, giving us easier access to...

    L. Plantarum Hop Resistance Question

Gotcha, thank you all for the info. I expect I will be doing a kettle sour very soon!

    L. Plantarum Hop Resistance Question

So I've never brewed a kettle sour due to fears that the lacto will survive in some random silicone line or on the pump impeller and infect a batch down the road. However, doing some quick research on L. Plantarum I see that it does not tolerate hops very well at all. Is there any sort of...

    Bog Myrtle instead of Hops

I believe it's the May 2011 issue of BYO has a recipe for a Viking Invasion ale. A 5-gallon batch calls for 2 grams of sweet gale at 60 minutes. I generally like to do 1 gallon batches so to scale down we're talking a very small amount of this stuff. My question is - is this stuff really that...

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

I have yet to brew in my new neighborhood. I used to live in the country and now my wife and I live in suburbia. Haven't really had time to brew since before the move. I'm hoping to post up the brew equipment in the garage with the door open and brew with the off chance of finding a new brew...

Conditioning beer in primary or keg?

To answer your question 2b: it will condition but it will take a lot longer than say at 70*F. I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere on here that for every 10*C lower your temperature is, yeast activity is halved during the conditioning phase.

Went to a buffalo wild wings today...

The ones here in Sarasota have Cigar City Jai Alai, which always makes me happy! Plus the discount wing night and trivia never fails to disappoint!

March Pump and Bitter Orange Peel - Make a Tincture Instead?

I'm brewing a AHS Pumpkin Porter this weekend and there is a spice packet with bitter orange peel in the packet. The instructions call for adding the spice packet at 15 minutes left in the boil. My setup includes a keggle with a March Pump to draw the wort from the keggle into my carboy. My...

    Temp control difference

Before I converted a freezer into my fermentation chamber, my beers were drinkable at best - Florida heat is mostly a bad thing. Just finished an IPA for my 1st beer in the ferm chamber and BAM! Delicious ale! :rockin:

    2 Guns 1 Keg

Considering you need low pressures to use the gun correctly, it seems to me that there shouldn't be any problems using two guns with the proper hardware.

Thanks for the response! I'm actually building a stir plate this week!

Shipping Liquid Yeast - Summer Months

Just wondering about shipping yeast in the summer months. Even if you ship with a cold pack (shipping from AHS in Texas to Florida) can melt the cold pack on standard 3 day shipping - this has happened to me before. I have no trained palate for tasting beer off-flavors, but the IPA that I made...

    August 2 is IPA Day

I brewed an IPA this past Sunday, so that's all I'll be doing. Cigar City Brewing, here in Tampa, is tapping 20+ different kegs of various IPAs that I imagine they've been working on for the past few months. They'll have their Humidor Series IPA, Tropical White Oak IPA, Smoked IPA and a few...

Does anyone else think Sam Adam's beer sucks

I particularly like their Boston Lager and their Noble Pils, but enjoy most of their beers. Plus the labels come off their bottles very easily!:rockin:
