    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Hi AJ, Great information in this thread. Here's my water profile, would it be any point for me to get an RO filter or can I basically treat it like it's already RO'd? pH 7,57 Conductivity 10,5 mS/m Alkalinity 0,651 mmol/l Hardness 2,66 odH CaCO3: 0,651 * 50 = 32,55 ppm Calsium 18,20...

    Advice on Dissolved Oxygen Meter

Hi, I'm oxygenating my wort with pure O2 before pitching the yeast, and I'm looking into buying a dissolved oxygen meter to better monitor the oxygen addition. Anyone have a good dissolved oxygen meter to recommend? I'm currently looking at this one, it has a range up to 19 mg/L which should...

    Prepare mash water in advance

I dont boil mash water usually, if I heat it on brew day. The idea here was to reach a high enough temperature so that the next day it would be close to sparge temp. I don't know the temp loss that would occur overnight though, so I could always heat it up to 180 or something instead of boiling...

    Prepare mash water in advance

Hello, I'm trying to shorten my brew sessions time-wise and have a question regarding mash water. Would it be okay to boil mash water the day before brew day, and keep it in an insulated steel kettle overnight where it will drop to about my mashout temp? Or could this potentially impart...

    Stainless Steel Check Valve

Hello, I'm planning to make a modified version of the Ultimate Sparge Arm as shown on Morebeer.com: Link In the build, they use some kind of check ball/valve to prevent back flow, looks like it's 1/2". Anyone know where I can buy such a valve? Also, what should be the cracking pressure...

Thanks. I will take another gravity reading in 1-2 days. If it hasnt moved i will try to rouse the yeast (cant see if it has been settled without popping the lid on the bucket)

Imperial Stout - concerned about attenuation

Hi, I brewed a 5 gallon batch of Imperial Stout on Sunday with OG 1.094. The mash temp was 150F. I made a starter using mrmalty's calculator, 2 tubes of WLP007 and 1,5L wort. I pitched the yeast at 62F and let it rise naturally to 65F where I've kept it for the last 5 days in my temp...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Thanks! What does the bleach do, sanitize the limes? Would it be OK to use PBW and Starsan instead? I'm thinking of boiling the limeade in any case.

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Hey Slim, I'm gonna brew this on Saturday, but Simply Limeade is not available in my country. Does it only contain lime juice, or is it mixed with something else, like sugar or water? Would it be OK to use fresh lime juice, or would this be too sour? Great recipe btw!

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

Hi BierMuncher, I have a question regarding the primary/secondary fermentation. Do you transfer the beer to a new bucket after finishing the primary fermentation and starting the secondary? I brewed this on saturday, oddly enough the OG came out at 1050, and my efficiency is usually 75%...

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

Hi Saccharomyces, I have a question concerning the secondary fermentation, do you transfer the brew from the primary fermentation bucket to a new bucket? Or let it sit 24 days in the same? I used WLP004 - Irish Ale, do you think it will turn out good?
