    Can you use your kettle as a primary?

    If you use hop bags, you should have minimal residue. If you cool your kettle down enough to pour into your primary and pitch your yeast, why can't you just aerate it in situ and then seal your kettle? Is fermenting in a metal container bad?

    mashing in a pressure cooker?

    This just hit me and i want to know if it's a dumb idea. As i understand it, the purpose of mashing is to extract fermentable sugars from grain. Thus, the key is to maintain proper temperature to get good utilization out of your enzymes. But i have this nice big pressure cooker. Am i looking...

    Can i use my bottling bucket as a secondary?

    So I'm STILL trying to find time to brew, but am becoming very adept at the technical aspects, thanks to reading and HBT. I have the Midwest basic kit and it comes with this bottling bucket. Seems to me that I can use it as a secondary if I buy a lid and add an airlock. No?

    homemade immersion chiller

    Making my own ic (for the proverbial ****s and giggles). Does the shape matter? Meaning does it matter if it's coiled like the store ones or if it's coiled 90* off. (Imagine a WW lying across the top of the kettle with the coils submerged.)

    Old crushed grains: use 'em?

    Bought an extract kit 6 months ago but got busy and put off brewing it. It's the Midwest irish stout kit and it comes with a bag of grain for steeping. I forgot that i had gotten the grains crushed because i had planned on brewing much sooner. Should i still use them or chuck 'em?
