Looks to me like that pic was taken before the supports were bolted in if that's what you asking.
I can't quite tell from the first pic but it looks there are bolt heads in the mounting location.
Same here....mine haven't touched mine in the 4 years I've had them.
Just don't let them get into the spent hops from your kettle. I think that is the most likely place for them to ingest hops.
Out of curiosity, how many gallons do you think you will producing a year for this events and personal consumption? Are you able to get beer shipped in or is it completely banned from entering Libya? The reason I ask is that the right people may be able to work the angle that this is for...

If what Chode (he named himself...I didn't :) ) said regarding sight glass doesn't work out then you could always just pre boil a few gallons of water and keep it in reserve for top off at the end of the boil.

Do you remember what the conversion kit cost?
I think you have to also take into consideration that we homebrewers are in a way searching for beer "greatness" and as yuri and others stated ales tend to be more flavorful.
Lager definately have there place with the masses but the creation of ales fill the hole for brewers.
