    my first yeast starter

    Planning to do my first one, and a quick (maybe silly) question. I had saved/frozen some of the excess wort from my mash tun, and wonder if I can use that to make a yeast starter? Could I not just boil it up, chill, add the yeast and let it do its thing? I have the flask, stir plate, and...

    Emptying the tun

    I've done 4 AG's so far. On two of them, I tilted the tun to empty the mash and did the same with the sparge water. Hit all my marks. The other two I did not, just adjusted sparge to account for the dead space and hit my marks. Is one method recommended over the other?

    Jumping in to AG

    Saturday is the day of the plunge. Either an AHS Northern Brown or an AHS Pilsner. Got all my supplies, did test runs with water, and feel I have a system down. My thanks to all of you posters who gave me tons of stuff to read without my even needing to ask! Now to choose which to do!

    New guy, Western PA

    Just finished my first batch of Amber Ale (which is outstanding), lurked here for awhile, but now ready to jump in. Great comments and advice throughout the forum. Looking forward to learning great things!
