First taste of my first brew

Well, it would be silly to receive a kit as a gift and not use what came with it.

First taste of my first brew

Week 2 tasting. 100% better than week 1. Fruity taste is still there but isn't tart like it was last week. No yeasty taste and the oily feeling is less prominent. It's carbonated but goes flat pretty quick and doesn't pour a head even with a vigorous pour. Only leaves a small layer of...

First taste of my first brew

Okay, I bottled 7 days ago. My first brew was the Coopers "lager" from the Coopers DIY kit. Since this is my first time, I decided to see how things were going and stick one in the fridge. I put it in this morning and tasted tonight. I was worried that my beer wasn't carbonating good because...

I need a quick bottle sanitation method

    No, maybe 1/4 ounce.

I need a quick bottle sanitation method

Hey, some extra poured out because it came out the little tube that fills the reservoir. Is it okay if it's mixed a little strong?

I need a quick bottle sanitation method

No, it's a Coopers kit. The bottler attaches to the spigot that's already on the fermentor. I can't really soak the spigot, so I figure I can just bring a cup of Star San up to it and submerge.

I need a quick bottle sanitation method

Okay, so how about this: Dip, leave a little in the bottle and set upright. Right before filling do one final slosh and dump out small remaining amount of Star San. Would that work? Also, I've had my fermentor covered with blanket to keep out the light. I think I should fill a small cup...

I need a quick bottle sanitation method

My Star San came today. I have a gallon of distilled water and I plan on pouring a little under 1/4 ounce in it then transferring it to a pot to dip my bottles in. How should I let them drain? I have a dish drainer that will probably allow me to drain 10-12 at a time. Should I do 10, then...

How long can I keep my beer in my primary fermenter?

The only thing I'm concerned with about using a spray bottle is measuring the right amount. If 5 gallons only requires 1oz, then a regular size spray bottle is going to be nearly impossible to measure I think.

How long can I keep my beer in my primary fermenter?

You are correct in that I will need 1/5oz. However, I think 3/4 of 1/4oz (three quarters of one quarter of an ounce) is pretty darn close to 1/5. I was looking at pictures of the Star San bottle and it looks like it measures in 1/4oz increments. I figure 3/4 of the way up to the 1/4 mark...

How long can I keep my beer in my primary fermenter?

I put my first batch (Coopers DIY) in the fermenter on the 29th of December. It's done fermenting but I just ordered some Star San for the bottling process and it says it will ship in 4-14 days (ordered from Amazon). Basically I want to know if there is a certain time period in which I should...

First brew almost done; want advice on second

Here is a link to the kit. (I'm also wondering how much beer this kit will make?) Do you think my beer will taste unpleasant since it fermented at 20-22C? Also, what do you mean by ice bath? Actually putting ice in or sitting my pot in a sink full of ice? And is there a minimum amount of...

First brew almost done; want advice on second

I've been wanting to get in to homebrewing for a long time now, and it just so happens that my wonderful fiancee bought me a Coopers DIY kit for Christmas. I brewed up the Coopers Lager that it came with on the 29th. It's at 1.015 today, which is the same as yesterday. I have a few questions...
