    Brewed a Pumpkin Beer Yesterday...

Finally, I was able to break my 2 month hiatus from brewing. I decided to just go and brew myself a pumpkin beer, which will hopefully be ready for Halloween. It was actually easier than i thought it would be, and hopefully it turns out pretty well. I loosely used Jamil's Recipe in Brewing...

    Back from 2 months off...

Well it got hot out, and I am a stove top all grain brewer with a terrible ac, so I took a brief hiatus from mid june till now. Brewed one beer in that period and that was it. But now I'm back! Got an amber ale planned this weekend to catapult me into the fall, which should be a bi weekly...

    Blending beers...

Anyone do it? I was listening to a Sunday Session today at work and Jamil said he has heard of people blending Bigfoot(25%) and SNPA(75%), and it turns out tasting like a IIPA. I think I will definitely give that a try just for fun. I know in the BYO clone guide, the recipe for Newcastle...

    Fuller's ESB

God, this stuff is great. It's been about 2 years since I last had it, but last night I bought a couple of their 16oz bottles and trucked through them while watching a movie. I swear i spent the time in between every taste, waiting for my next taste. It was one of those perfect beers at...

    New Bud Lager Glass

Just saw it with my own two eyes. A commercial for bud advertising the new Bud Lager glass special designed for something or other. It looks like it had goosebumps all over it. Interesting. I hope it gets BMC drinkers to believe they are BMC EAC's ;)

Washed WLP 300 - how long will it keep?

I washed some hefeweizen yeast from a hefe I made and bottled a week ago. I plan on making a Dunkel this weekend, a Roggen the following and then another hefe probably two weeks after that. I just heard a Jamil show on Dunkels and he was saying that this yeast really won't last more than a...

It's Funny how Brewing Trains the Palate

I've noticed over that last few months, since I have become a better and more knowledgable brewer, that my recollection of beers I've tried before brewing and have not had since is usually way off base. My most recent example is the Sierra Nevada Wheat beer. Yesterdays Sierra Nevada...

Planned Brew Sessions That Don't Happen

Nothing worse than sitting at your desk on monday morning, knowing that you did not get to brew over the weekend even though you had planned on it. Last weekend I planned on Brewing a Hefewiezen to welcome in the spring. However, SWMBO had other plans. Painted the kitchen all weekend. GAG...

    Pale Ale w/ Rye

I have been brewing style after style out of Jamil Z's book, and am looking to throw in a fun project beer coming up. I have not yet brewed with Rye Malt, and want to experiment with it. I have had a Stout and a IPA with Rye, though haven't really been able to pick out the "Rye" character in...

Is Irish yeast best for a guinness clone?

I am planning on brewing a guinness clone this weekend for St. Patty's day and have been doing a fair amount of research on recipes. I have both heard and read that really the WLP Irish Ale yeast is not the best yeast to use for this recipe. It has been suggested that something dryer and...

How often do you replace your SS braid?

I had my first stuck sparge today, it sucked! Took me about 2 hrs at least to drain my MLT and I still ended up about a 3 quarters of a gallon short of my target preboil volume. Once I emptied out all the grain from my MLT, there it was, a completely busted SS braid. Stretched tight...
