So happy Seattle water chlorine problems isolated

Been having problems with a plastic taste/burp in my beers since the new year. Just tried a glass of a test brew I did with campden tablets and the (what I now believe to be) chlorophenols are not present. What a relief. The LHBS said it was lacto. Glad I found the water issue. Seattle bumped...

    Are phenols/chlorophenols safe?

Say I brew a batch with chlorinated city water and it produces the plasticy phenol after taste and smell. If I don't mind the aftertaste is it still okay to drink? Looking up chlorophenols gives all sorts of doom and gloom but those appear to be dichlorophenols.

    Nightmare brew day

Well, actually all was well until around 2:30am when I was moving what the pot said was 22 quarts of boiled and ready to pitch to beer into the primary. 22 quarts, between 20 and 24 on the pot. That would be 5 1/2 gallons. Logically it would be. But magically a gallon Must've evaporated...

    Kegs on CL

Anyone in the Seattle area know anything about the kegs that keep coming up on CL from olympia? They're offering ball locks for $40 and supposedly they've been tested and have new gaskets. Too good to be true? Thanks

    Solve the plastic taste mystery

So, I've been hunting down solutions to the plastic after taste and burp that's begun plaguing me as of late. The local shop told me that they thought it might be lactobacillus. But everything I've read points to the issue with chlorine and the medicine taste (phenols?) I've been doing...

So, what can you do with infected beer?

I have a beer with an infection that gives a sour taste and an after taste of plastic when you belch. What can I do now? Just drink it myself?

    Infection! Reclassification?

Damn, latest batch has lacto. Think it's the wort chiller. Maybe I can reclassify my American ipa to be an American sour ipa for the local contest? Just kidding. *sigh* at least I got beer.

    Heat stick

Holy crap! It works! And I didn't kill myself. I'm impressed. One I can brew in the basement and have my own private space. Winning.

    Biab/minimash & steeping

Do you still steep the steeping grains or do they just go into the mash with Biab/minimashing?

    Centennial predators?

Went to check on my hops today. Looking good but one of the two bines on my centennial has had the head and two leaves apparently bitten off. Cleanly removed. There are no obvious critters lurking around. I'm up in the northwest and we've got slugs. What do you guys look for and how do you...

    What style is it?

I crafted a beer that's consistently turned out awesome. I labeled it as and American Pale Ale but now that I want to enter it I'm noting that it misses the BJCP style in a couple areas. What should I enter it as if I want to compete? My understanding is that mis-styling it will cause you to...
