Counterflow vs plate Chiller - recommendations?

And first: I understand that a plate chiller IS a counter-flow chiller. For the purposes of my question, by counterflow chiller I mean the pipe inside of a pipe/hose type. Curious to know what everyone recommends given these two options. I just bought a 10 gallon pot in order to do full...

It came to me this morning, while preparing toast. I plan to brew a Mild, British style pale ale, brewed with Orange Marmalade. I have no recipe yet. based on what i have read thus far, i will likely design a standard british mild pale ale, But then tweak it by eliminating all flavoring and...

    Reccomendations to fix over-carbonation?

Hi again! So I bottled my Pale Ale a few weeks back, which was dry-hopped and had numerous late hop additions as well. It tasted great on bottling day, while still flat. Good hop Flavor....not too bitter. Brilliant. A week after bottling, I cracked one just to see how it was coming...

Gelatin use, Secondary with Dry Hops (?)

Another thread i read suggested using Gelatin in the secondary (rather than at bottling). I didn't want to steal the thread but i have some interesting follow up questions. First, I would have thought this might pull too much yeast out of suspension in the secondary, and possibly lead to...

1.083 Stout, done in 48 hrs? Possible?

OK, so let me preface by saying I am still relatively new to brewing, as i started up again recently after a 4 yr hiatus. I have a 1.083 OG stout in the fermenter, and it has stopped fermenting after 48 hrs. Prior batches of lower gravty ales have attenuated at 55% (dry yeast, never again)...

    Low attenuation for multiple recipes

Hi everyone! I am hoping someone can help me here. I am having ADD (attenuation deficit disorder - LOL). Although my current beer was intended to be my first shot at partial mash, I 'mashed' in a grainbag that was MUCH too tight, and ended up extracting only 16 gravity points in 2.5 gallons...
