    Wild Brett?

So I was messing around with agar plates leaving a few outside for a few hours to see what I got. At first there wasn't much, but after a few days I had one that had something that looked like yeast so I streaked another plate with it, that also too k a long time to grow anything noticeable. I...

    Orange yeast?

OK so I tried to harvest some yeast form a bottle by pouring a few drips from the bottom into a petri dish (sterile with malt agar) and sure enough it seemed to grow. I harvested some into a starter and that seems to be going fine. The only thing is though, looking at the dish it looks...

    Iffy sour

So I made a sour a while back that turned out great. I got about 6Gal from it and still had 1 in a jug. About 2 months ago a took some second runnings and added the 1Gal. I stuck it away in my work room and half forgot about it. I checked on it the other day and the air lock had dried up and...

    New oak barrel

OK so I just received a new oak barrel I ordered online and was inspecting the inside. Apart from the fact the "medium" toast looked very light, I also notice white stuff (I'm guessing some sort of glue/sealer) along the joins. Is that normal? Should I be worried? Thanks Trevor

Has anyone tried a variable capacity fermentor? (http://www.annapolishomebrew.com/shopvaricap.asp)

    RIMS question

OK so I'm looking to upgrade my all grain setup and have been looking into RIMS. It seems that most peoples concern with it is caramelizing the wort. What I'm wondering is why it's a concern here, when we're going to boil the wort later anyway. Is it the grain getting in the system that would...

    CO2 Dip tube

I got a CO2 tank that's got a dip tube in it to fill paint ball guns, does that need to be removed before I fill it or is that fine?

    Auto siphon leaking

Does anyone have any tricks to fix a leaking auto siphon? I tried a bit of keg lube, but it didn't seem to help much. It's leaking at the rubber stopper inside the main tube (air's getting sucked in).

    Slant stoppers

I ordered some petri dishes last night and the site had test tubes on sale for dirt cheep so I ordered some to use as slants. The only problem is they don't have stoppers. I was thinking I could probably find some cheap cork ones, but would that work? Any other ideas?

    dip tube oring

OK so I'm rebuilding the kegs I just got and found the orings for the dip tube and gas tube that came with the rebuild kit don't seem to match. The ones on the kegs seem to be more like rubber washers than orings. Do the just get squashed over time or do I need to get the same kind of washers?

    CO2-Proof Tubing

In my search for a CO2 tank I came across a site that sells CO2-Proof Tubing. It claimed that normal airline tubing can lose up to 20% of CO2 through its membrane. Does anyone know if that's true/is it worth buying? The site: http://www.co2-canisters.com/index1.html
