Planning my next beer to be a Hefe

So, my next beer is going the be a Hefe and while I have the recipe pretty nailed down, after reading a few threads I am in a bit of a quandary. My initial plan was to use the Weinstaphen (sp?) strain, but have been reading about the WLP300 and the Munich classic and am torn now on what yeast...

    Peach IPA

OK, let me first say I am not the most refined palate out there and probably worse since many of the IPA's are so hop forward that I think I lost a bit. But, I ran into Sierra Nevada Peach Little Think IPA. Wow, I got the peach right away and man is it good. I looked at the recipe on their...

    Introducing flavors to roasted coffee

OK, so my wife has enjoyed most of the coffees that I have roasted. I mistakenly bought a box of Kcups that was flavored with Hazelnut that she said was really good and asked if I could do something like that with my roasts. Well, I thought it would be something to look into, right? So, I...

    Opinions needed

I don't bottle much, and probably will less now that I have my new to me kegerator. But, I am wondering about something. In the past I have bottled my beers, added carb drops and let them sit in a closet at about 65 to 70 for a week or two before putting some in the fridge to cool and try. My...

    As fate would have it

My little brother is moving out of a condo my mom owns this weekend and my daughter is moving in. While surveying the unit, small one bedroom unit, my daughter mentioned getting all new appliances. Well heck, there is a perfectly good fridge freezer combo there with the freezer on the top and...

    Sanke coupler cleaning

So, with the new addition of my multi tap setup I was looking around my parts and found two Sanke couplers. Both are the older twist on style and while I dig my homebrew I was thinking I could use these if I decide I want to just buy a commercial beer instead. With that said, they are older...

    Condensation in my fermenting fridge

With doing my first Helles at low temps, 52 or so, I am noticing some condensation forming in the cooling coils as well as water on the floor of the fridge. I am guessing it is because the fridge turns on and off to keep the temp at 52 but wondering if anybody else has had this issue.

    2 Tap kegerator

Ok, so just finished my first cup of coffee and got to thinking. I have seen lots of used stuff but since I have most, if not all, the parts to make a 2 tap setup myself I am wondering what size dorm style or smaller fridge would work? I have two that are on the smaller side and while space is...

    Props to Northern Brewer

OK, not sure where this goes, so I chose here. Mods please put it where it belongs if this is the wrong place. OK, so a few months ago, probably about 6 to be exact, I had a gift card to Austin Homebrew supplies. I used it to purchase a spunding valve, which was a NB setup. For whatever...

    Grainfather and Efficiency

OK, so I know I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but the Helles I have working now was supposed to have a preboil gravity of 1.045 and I clocked in at 1.051. According to Grainfather that is a 91% efficiency? Does that sound about right?

Sparging with the Grainfather G30 V2

Boy it sure seems like it takes a while to get 3 gallons of sparge water thru the grain bed with the top plate on it. Having holes just at the bottom I am sure does not help. Oh well, almost time for a beer anyway. LOL

    Perlick 24 Inch Kegerator

Greetings to all, I just found a listing on Craigslist for a Perlick 24 Inch Kegerator, model is H1T-S and serial number is 635084. He wants 250 for it but says the door switch needs replacing and there is an error code of HA on the display. I have done a bit of research and the code means...

Keezer with a tower on it

OK, so I have a really nice tower I was able to get with two perlick taps that I really want to use. I see chest freezers for less than 100 bucks a lot on craigs list but have never, at least not that I remember, seen anybody put the taps on the lid of the freezer instead of making a collar for...

    Russian River Saison

So, I just tried their Saison beer and it was really good. Never having had one before I enjoyed it. Anybody have a good Saison recipe for a fairly new drinker to this style?

I think I am using too much coffee

For some reason I read, or thought I read, that 32 ounces of beans ground is the proper amount for a 16oz cup of coffee. I quick internet search tells me I am using about twice as much as I should be. Any pro's out there can advise on how much you used for a standard 16oz cup?

Looking for opinions on my next grill

OK, so my wife is not a huge fan of overly smoked meats so I am looking for something that I can get a hint of flavor but not the intense smoke that most of my cooks on my propane smoking chamber get. I was talking to a coworker about a gravity feed charcoal grill and he says he really enjoys...

    Grainfather Counterflow Chiller

OK, so I was going to give it a quick cleaning before my next brew and found that the silicone hose that connects to the pump has broken off. I am wondering if anybody has done any modification to make this an easier process the clean? I saw the Youtube video with the quick disconnects, but...

Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout

Gave this one a try the other day and it was really good. Anybody have a good go to recipe for a PB Milk Stout? Thanks in advance

    PBW substitute

Greetings to all, I seem to remember somebody posting a substitute to PBW that was substantially cheaper and was readily available on Amazon. I have searched the threads and cannot find it. Can someone help me out with this? If not, no worries, I am getting to the end of my Alkaline Brewery...

    Wheat Malt

OK, so as mentioned in a previous post, I want to do a Hefe beer and it calls for German Wheat Malt. The local place, Williams Brewing, has Weyermann White Wheat malt, but does not say German as Morebeer does. My question to the masses, is this the same thing? I am trying to justify ordering...
