    Pre boil vs post boil

Second AG and my pre boil gravity was spot on (1.041). My post boil was 1.075. Does that make sense? If so, what is my OG when calculating ABV and how does it affect my FG which is supposed to hit 1.013.

    First time with Wyeast

I'm brewing a small batch of a Winter Warmer using Wyeast 1099 Whitbread Ale. It'll be my first time brewing with Wyeast. The total batch size should be between 2-3 gallons. I have the yeast now and plan on brewing 11/2. How should I store the pack until then? Also, when should I take it...

    Low Alcohol

I just racked my first AG Pale into the secondary and took a gravity reading. My OG was 1.044 and my current reading is 1.031! Am I stuck with a low ABV beer or is there something I can do? Either way, what would I do differently next time. On a side not the sample I took tastes delicious!

    Maple Sugar, Molasses, Brown Sugar

I have a Brown Ale extract kit that I'd like to brew with one of the above three to spice it up. Thoughts on how much and when would be greatly appreciated!

    Adding Sugars

I have a True Brew Brown Ale extract kit and I was thinking about adding to it to "spice" it up. Thinking about one of either Maple Syrup, Molasses, or Brown Sugar. Any thoughts and if so how much and when during the process? Thanks

    Reading the Mash Profiles

I have not yet ventured into all grain brewing but have been reading and watching a lot. I downloaded iBrewMaster and BeerSmith for my iPad and understand it for the most part. What I can't seem to figure out is them any mash profiles. Can anybody explain the different mash profiles for...

    5 Gallon Igloo Mash Tun

I'm sure everyone here has seen this thread a million times but as much as I search I'm still not confident. I just converted a 5 gallon Igloo cooler over and I'd love to use it for my all grain batches. I'm not one who requires a lot of end product and I'm not kegging at this point but I...

    First Timer

I've been an extract brewer for about 2 years now and am taking a class this winter from a local nano-brewery on all grain brewing. I thought I'd get a head start on what I'm going to need equipment wise and space requirements. What are my entry costs? Can I do it in my basement? I live in...

    EZ Cap Bottles

I've used my ez cap bottles for my first two brews and only about half of them carbonate. The rubber is only two brews old and is cleaned and sanitized each time. Someone told me to use a little Keg Lube around the rubber next time. Any other tips?

    Rochester, NY

Hello from Upstate NY! I've just begun home-brewing and have been trying to find time, in between a new baby, to brew. I've officially brewed two beers and am in the middle of my third. I've only used extract kits so far but look forward to learning more and more and expanding my brewing...
