    Halfsies on some kegs?

Anybody in the Dayton, Ohio area interested in going in 50/50 on a deal for 5 gal ball lock kegs? 4 recon kegs for $179. Split the cost right down the middle for 2 each? I can't justify buying 4 but I could use a couple more. PM me if interested.

    Plastic smell in Vittles Vault

I recently bought this to store grain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002H3S5K/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 There is a plastic off-gassing smell in the container despite scrubbing the heck out of it. Anybody else have this problem? Did you find a solution? I'd hate to stash my grain...

Valve on bottom of boil kettle?

I've been considering adding a valve and false bottom to one of my boil kettles to make it easier to transfer wort to the fermenter and filter out leaf hops when i use them.. Other than having to use a stand with a hole in the center, is there any reason I couldn't put the valve on the bottom of...

    Rubbermaid mash tun!

Brewed for the first time in my DIY 10 gallon Rubbermaid mash tun yesterday and I am really glad I made the decision to buy and build it. For the most part I followed FlyGuy's procedure located here:https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/cheap-easy-10-gallon-rubbermaid-mlt-conversion-23008/...

    First time with new MLT!

So I built myself a MLT out of a Rubbermaid 10 gal Home Depot cooler and brewed my first batch in it last night. I was very impressed. Not a degree lost. We brewed an oatmeal stout. This was my 5th time brewing and since we just ran out of the oatmeal stout I made the first time I brewed...

    Foil fell off starter :-/

Made a 2L starter a couple days ago with an older vial of yeast. Today (brew day) I went to get the starter and apparently it vigorously fermented last night and the foil came off the flask. Now I am kinda sketchy as to whether I should use it or not. Any opinions? JB

    Dunkel help

I am experiencing an odd aftertaste in my first attempt at a dunkel. I wish I could describe it better but the only way I can think to describe it is to say that it has a very sour aftertaste. Its not bad up front but that first exhale out of the nose after taking a drink is very overpowering...

Winter garage brewing (aka temp troubles)

I calculated my strike temp then added a couple degrees because of the nature of my set up and the fact that I am mashing in the garage. Long story short, The 1st 20 mins of my mash was spent falling from 160 to my desired 155. Other than a little more unfermentable sugars, should I expect...

Christmas Ale or Ginger Beer :-(

I just transferred a Christmas Ale over to secondary and gave it a sample. Holy ginger! I don't even taste the cinnamon, lol. I know I used too much but I didn't think it was that much. Can I expect the ginger taste to fade over some time as it ages? Is there a possibility I just taste the...

    How many brews per tank?

I am on my third brew day and am still using the same standard propane tank. How many brews do you usually get out of a tank?

    Third batch underway!

I know its a little late but I am brewing a GLCA clone. I figure everybody will be running to me after running out, lol. Nightmarish and disastrous start. My mash pot (BIAB) sprung two minor leaks so I had to use my sparge pot which doesn't fit the strainer bag. I feel like my efficiency might...

    1st batch update

I'm posting updates like I actually have followers of my brewing experience eagerly awaiting my words, lol. I'm excited, what can I say? Just took a SG reading from the oatmeal stout I made last week. OG was 1.065 and it is currently at 1.023. I know oatmeal stouts mellow with age but DAMN I...

    2nd Batch under the belt!

So I just finished up my second brew day. Some improvements made on my process but also a couple problems I did not have my first go-round. I started to worry I was going to get horrible efficiency because for some reason I just could not keep my mash temp where I wanted it. I wanted to mash...

    First brew day has arrived!

Picked up my grains from the LHBS about 2 hours ago and I am about 40 minutes into my first brew day. Yes my very first brew is all grain. I am jumping right in. Very excited! The dough-in went well and it smells delicious! My sparge water is heating up and my airlock, funnel and huge syringe...

    Save some starter?

Hey gang, As some you may have read, I made my first starter Fri night. It occurs to me that I should be able to save some of my starter in the vial the yeast originally came in and use it to make another starter the next time I brew (given I want to use the same yeast). Any reason that isn't...

    Home from Afghanistan

Well I made it home from Afghanistan. :ban: Day one back at home included a trip to my LHBS to pick up the supplies that I ordered before I even left Kabul. Just finished my pitching my first starter about 5 hours ago and I already see activity. Can't wait until Sunday when I will brew my...

    New member.

Hello all, I'm new to the forums and to brewing. I am deployed in Afghanistan right now but will be home shortly and really look forward to getting my first brew under my belt. I already have my kit picked out and ordered. I have been reading fervently on the process. I hold a BS in Molecular...
