Number of bottles produced--is this off?

Ok, my first batch yielded 42 bottles, as did the second. I was under the impression that a single five gallon batch would be around fifty. Now, of course, eight less may be seen as nitpicky, but come on---eight beers is eight beers. I understand the mathematics of it, and the displacement from...

    safe to drink when?

Alright, brewed my second batch of beer--a munich amber something or other--and things got busy so it sat in the primary for three weeks. I bottled last night and now comes the waiting. By the way, I didn't do secondary because I don't have a carboy yet. Anyway, I was wondering how long I...

    chilling the bottles--timeline

Ok, I've had a batch sitting in bottles roughly three weeks. I may not have enough room in the fridge for all of them, but I assume it is ok to leave bottles at room temp for a while? Also, as mentioned in a another thread of mine, I will be using a secondary for the next batch. When I...

When is too late for secondary

I am just getting into all this--my second batch is fermenting now--but I have a question about secondary. According to the book, secondary should begin two or three days after visible signs of fermenting have stopped. I of course, decided this weekend--six days after putting second batch into...

mixed signals on fermenting and other stuff

Ok, I bottled my first batch two weeks ago yesterday and had a few last weekend--a week and a half after a bottling. They were really good, so I am pleased. More on that in another thread. But I have a question about fermenting. The guy I bough the stuff from told me to let it ferment NO MORE...

    How long do they last?

I'm new at this, bottled my first batch today (woo-hoo!). Anyhoo, I have a question. Now, this is not to say that I will have any problems drinking my brew and sharing it with friends, but I have already ordered a new recipe and can already for see a fridge full of beer, swapping one taste of...

    First Batch!

I just wanted to tell someone (and who better to tell than all the fine folks in this room) that my first batch of beer is bottled, as of fifteen minutes ago. I was pleased, that it smelled like I'd hoped. Of course taste is another matter. Now the wait begins but the hard part is over--already...

    bottle sanitation

Alright, I've been saving bottles for my first batch ever, rinsing them out. Now, the best way to sanitize? I know to clean them out with bottle brush, etc., but how do I make certain that no germs or anything get in there before the bottling occurs/ What are the best bottle sanitizing methods?

    Here I am! Finally!

After having spent the last year listening to my brother in law's brewing adventures, and enjoying his beer, I have made the plunge myself. Glad to have found this place, as I am sure I will get some nice info. Cheers.

    Bottle cap sanitation

I am pleased to announce that my first batch is fermenting! Now, I am lookign ahead here, but I was wondering about sanitation for bottle caps. Can I just drop them in the iodine solution I've got and then pull them out one at a time as I bottle each individual one? I have also heard (from the...
