Is secondary necessary for a stout?

The instructions state I should put into a secondary, but it's an irish stout. Is it really necessary? If it will help the beer, I'll do it, if not, I'll just bottle. Seems to be no sense in trying to clear an already dark stout, but need help as a rookie. tks

    Maine rookie

Hello everyone. I've been posting a few threads with questions and reading like crazy and forgot to say hello. I brewed a couple of batches 20 yrs ago, so I'm a total noobie. I've brewed a scottish ale, bock and today doing the AHS gritty's black fly stout. I started about a month ago so I've...

    Scottish Ale

My first brew was a Brewer's Best Scottish Ale. It's been in the bottle for a week. Decided to give it a try and it's super smokey. I'm hoping it will mellow. Any one make this recipe and get the same result? It's only a week in the bottles so I'm hoping it's just not ready yet.

    European bock

I've read the wiki info, but still unsure. I brewed Brewer's Best Euro Bock and the FG was supposed to be 1.014-1.018. I measured it a week ago and it was at 1.030. I measured it again a week later and it's at 1.030. On top of this, the brew has been in my primary now for 4 weeks as of...

    When to put in Secondary?

In my primary is a European Bock Lager from the Brewer's Best kit. It's been there since brew day on Wed, April 11. The airlock is still bubbling like crazy and it's been 10 days. The primary has been in a constant temp of 58-59 F. Should I get this out of the primary and into my secondary...
