    flaked barley in pale ale?

The flaked barley will add mouthfeel and body to the beer, but it will be harder to clear in my experience. If you don't mind a touch of cloudy, it will be fine.

    Bottle Fermented Beer?

It's just naturally carbonated in the bottle: http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/Beers.cfm?BeerID=16

Looking for One Last Trick to Great Cones

fertilize, keep the pests at bay, and I recommend trimming back the initial bines to just a few per plant so they get more light, etc. and make bigger cones. Oh, and what buzzkill said!

Anyone use the 13 gal cube AHS fermenter

I use 15 gallon glass demijohns all the time, but I usually get someone to help with lifting it.

    In China, Need Recipe Help!

Absolutely you can brew a batch! The only thing is you have a lager yeast, so you will have to have cooler temperatures. You could make a Marzen-like beer. For five gallons, use 8-10 lbs of your amber extract, steep about 6-8 oz of your crystal and do an oz of your german hops for 60 min, and...

    chest freezer gasket

It depends on whether your freezer is a "self defrosting" aka "Frost free" , if its not they will all have condensation in them to some degree or another. The frost free/self defrosting models are more expensive. Most of us use the others and thus are more likely to experience condensation.

Sanitizing in dishwasher - A cautionary tale

You do this and you will probably have a stained red dishwasher--that would be a SWMBO no-no in my casa. I soak the bottles in sanitizer, high pressure bottle wash and then run through hot cycle (wash and dry) in my dishwasher with no soap or other detergents.

Ideas for a Warm Fermenting Brew?!?!

Here's what I do in the desert. I bought some of these "cube coolers" from wally world and cut the holes in the top as shown: Then put your carboys in them, and I freeze bottles of water and put one in each corner. I change them out daily. Works pretty well, especially if its already 78...

    considering a Shirron plate chiller...

I love my shirron. Never had an issue of any type with it. I can't believe I brewed 13 years with a CFC--never again. I highly recommend it.

Nope, you're golden. I get all kinds of variation on hot breaks, whether it was extract or all grain. RDWHAHB.

    Steeping Rye?

You can steep flaked rye. I've done it before with extract recipes and it came out quite nice.

How high can a March Pump--pump?

Hey, a bit off topic, but I have noticed that the pumps you get from morebeer, NB, etc. have a mounting plate already attached, so unless you mount with the plate vertical, you can't get the inlet on top and outlet on bottom. Our can you actually rotate the pump head?

first years with a rash (pictures)

You can leave the mixture I recommended on there for awhile if you are going out of town, it won't hurt the plants at all. I just posted the spraying off option so you knew that you could remove it later if it bothers you. As the other posters mentioned, I would remove the most infected leaves...

    Electric keggle wort chiller design?

    2010 Hops Gardens

Thanks! :mug: I've really enjoyed growing these babies, but they sure are a bitch to clean up after when they die out in the winter. An arbor like this is probably not the best way to grow them, but SWMBO insisted on something that "looks nice".

    2010 Hops Gardens

Here are my third years on the arbor I built. All cascades. These are growing in the chihuahuan desert with temps over 100 degrees daily. You can grow these suckers anywhere!

first years with a rash (pictures)

I wouldn't use pesticides unless you are going to wash the hops before brewing-which will probably reduce the lupulin. There are organic solutions if its spider mites. Try 1/2 cup wheat flour, 1 tablespoon buttermilk and 2 quarts water. Put it in a spray bottle and hose those suckers down. It...
