    Pecans???

I just ignored it. With as little as I put in I didn't figure it would matter too much. I have a very slight aftertaste of pecan on mine. It's nice, but I would have enjoyed a bit more of the pecan flavor. I toasted mine in the oven until they were very dark brown, then I did the ol'...

    Pecans???

I did a Pecan Porter that is in the secondary now. I only used about 12 oz or so in a 10 gallon batch. Mashed them with the grains. The porter is excellent, but definately could use some more pecan flavor to it. 2 lbs in a 7 gallon batch should be interesting, let us know how prevalent the...

Anywhere I can buy a transparent bucket lid?

Yup, sounds like what you really want is a Better Bottle.

    My Rig--thanks HBT!

The picture came from Bargainfittings.com; this is Wayne's whirpool setup. I just moved it up on the MT to use as a recirculater/sparger. Works like a charm. On the outside of the keg I have a standard stainless steel ball valve and barbed nipple for the connecting hose. I am replacing the...

    Single Tier Brew Stand

yeah send me a pic of those; I've been thinking about a way to put a chiller holder on my rig that will allow you to quickly disconnect for cleaning. Nice Rig!

    Single Tier Brew Stand

Hey I like your little brackets for the plate chiller, what did you use?

    Pacific Hydrostar Pumps

If they have moving parts (and thus lubricants such as oil) in the head itself, then you don't want to use them with wort.

Ball or Pin Corney? need a bit of a quick response

You need an adapter and need to know if it is a firestone or Cornelius. You can order the adapter from Foxx Equipuipment sales. Save yourself the hassle; go with the ball lock IMHO.

Ball or Pin Corney? need a bit of a quick response

As said, it's personal preference. I went with ball lock (pepsi) purely for the reason that they are taller and thinner, than the shorter squatter pin locks (coke). This makes it just a bit easier for me to set in and out of my keezer. It also takes just a bit less horizontal space since the...

Spent Grains make compost pile stink

+1, I've been composting my spent grains for awhile and you definately have to have the right mix of greens and browns, mix them up well, and make sure your compost isn't overly wet and you will kill most of that smell

Angry Brewing!!! What did I make???

If the kits are saying to just add hops at the last 2 minutes, then they are almost certainly pre-hopped.

    Ahhrghh! Scorching!

dry hop the snot out of it

    Ahhrghh! Scorching!

Well, it probably won't taste quite like you were hoping. First off, what was the beer style? If its darker like a stout or porter, might not be an issue at all. If its light, it will be more pronounced. Ferment as usual and see how it comes out. One option might be to dry hop the crap out...

Well according to the article above, better than with gravity! I'll volunteer to be the space beer tasting guinea pig! :)

    My Rig--thanks HBT!

The wort returner/sparger looks very similar to this: the only difference, of course, is that it's installed up at the top of the MT, and mine happens to run the opposite direction (counterclockwise). I had it made custom by bargainfittings.com--where I buy all my brewing fittings needs...

    My Rig--thanks HBT!

Sure, I'll have to take a look and see if I have pics here at work, but if not i will do it at home later. The buckets are just to catch any extra water/wort that comes through the bleeder valves I put there to keep the mess down. I close the top valve on the pump, and open the side valve...

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

I'm a secondary man for sure. Clears up the beer, easier to siphon off without a lot of yeast into kegs. It's always worked for me and I see no reason to change. I actually like to transfer, gives me a chance to taste the brew and take a reading, etc.
