  1. BloodSweatandBeers

    Extract Full Boil Process

Well that's good to know. Thanks Yooper! The last batch I did I steeped 3/4 lb of Crystal 10L in 6 gallons of 170*F 30 min. I then brought the temp to a boil, the instant boil was achieved I removed the grains (per the instructions). After reading I began to worry that I increased my chances...

    Extract Full Boil Process

Thanks for your perspective MalFet! I think I'm going to just pull the bag and place it in a strainer over a bowl. After a while I'll put whatever ended up in the bowl back in. I really want to keep the amount of pots/kettles to a minimum. As far as adjusting my hops based on my boil...

    Extract Full Boil Process

Not from what I've read. It seems that steeping in too much water will increase the risk of extracting tannins. Check out No. 5 from this list http://byo.com/component/resource/article/Issues/231-October%202005/10-10-steps-to-better-extract-brewing

So do you think rinsing the grains with 170*F water is worth the effort?

    Extract Full Boil Process

So after stumbling over a few threads I've realized I may have been doing a few things wrong. I've upgraded to full boils a few batches ago. Up until now I've always used the instructions that came with my Brewmaster's Select kits but just boiled 6 gallons instead of 2. Basically my method went...
  6. BloodSweatandBeers

    Secondary length

Good luck with your beer. Whatever route you go, just keep it sanitized and don't splash when or if you transfer to a secondary. You'll find that "most" on this forum will agree.

    Smallest Fermentation Fridge

What is the inside height of the fridge? I want to get it if I can fit my 6.5 carboy inside.

  9. BloodSweatandBeers

    Secondary length

If you search the forums you'll see most guys do 4 weeks in the primary and then go straight to bottles. When you secondary unnecessarily, you could be exposing your beer to unnecessary risks. I personally primary for 4 weeks then bottle. You'll learn most only secondary to dry hop, add fruit...
  10. BloodSweatandBeers

    Secondary length

How long are you talking about? It will keep for a while as long as you keep it in a dark cool place and it won't get infected as long as you were sanitary when you brewed/transfered. Why are you using a secondary?

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

Thanks Revvy and everyone else who has added to this great thread. The dip-tube was the biggest "why didn't I think of that" in here. I just made mine out of a copper elbow from the hardware store and I've been able to get all but a little more than 2oz out of my bucket. Thanks for this simple...

    Summer Brewing and Temp.

Did you just add ice to a tub of water? Did you try wicking a towel and using a fan along with the ice?

    Question about kegerator/fermenter chamber

Thanks everyone for sharing your set-ups and advice. Agodfrey, do you keep your fermenter in the chest for the whole time your beer is in the primary?

    Question about kegerator/fermenter chamber

I'm trying to get an idea of what the usual set up is when it comes to kegerators and fermentation chambers. Do you guys use a two appliance set-up or just one? I want to start controlling my fermentation temps and expand into lager capability but I would also like to start kegging. The only...

If your just looking to chill one carboy at a time check out this thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/smallest-fermentation-fridge-225303/ based on the dimensions, this should hold a 6.5 carboy. I've found this model for around $115 on the internet. If the thread checks out, this...

    Brewing Beer in Southern Spain

The only other homebrewers I know are other guys from work. My landlord (an Irish fellow) is really interested in it but from what he has told me, there is nothing locally here in Andalucia. His only real option is to order from other EU countries, however, the prices are high. Lucky for me I...
