    all grain for newbs

You want to follow the temperatures and times as close as possible, but it doesnt have to be 100% accurate. As long as they are in those ranges. You get certain fermentable and non fermentable sugars at the different temperature ranges referred to in the kitchen mash link. You have to follow...

What kind of water do you use?

I use the water out of my toilet. If its good enough to poop in it, it's good enough to brew with it... Just joking :D I use city water, but I boil it before using it to get the added toxins out (chlorine, chloramide). It seems our water also has a high mineral content.

    Good source of Belgian beer?

I saw this show on Fine Living where they were looking at Belgian Beer. THe monks at this monastery had their own brewery on premises. They only used a few ingredients. Pale ale malt, candied sugar, and hops. They said the beer had a little bit of a cidery flavor..

The sediment is toxic... Don't Drink it!!! Just Joking.. I was able to keep alot of it out of the bottles by attaching a 1 inch length of a plastic straw to the end of a siphon hose. so your sucking out the good stuff out of the fermenter and not the dirt. I think the sediment gave me the...

    Stuck Fermentation??

The strain of yeast your using is recommended for fermentation at 14° to 21°C (57° to 70°F) fermentation temperature range.

    Stuck Fermentation??

It sounds like you have alot of malt in your brew, which will take longer to ferment. I would just heat up the fermenter before I would add more yeast. Don't want yeast bite. Try wrapping an electric heating blanket around your fermenter and crank it until it feels like the same temperature as...

    Anybody tried The Beer Machine?

Mr Beer is cheaper and easier. Plus it gives you the basic concept of the fermentation process. I have switched to all grain and still use their keg for fermentation and bottling. I just converted a cooler to a mash/lauter tun.

    Activity in the bottle?

If you are using plastic soda bottles, the only thing you will notice is the bottles getting hard as a rock between 10-14 days. If you are using glass bottles, just let them sit for 2 weeks, refrigerate one and crack it open, if it foams and it is carbonated, you're good. otherwise, leave the...

    Help a beginner!

Sounds like your using table sugar.... Use a DME, or Rice sugar & corn sugar. You will get a buzz... It sounds like you have less than the standard 3.8 percent alcohol in your brew.

    Another beginner here...using MrBeer

Leave the barrel alone, the yeast will work in cold temperatures as well, from 58 - 72 degrees. The stuff at the bottom is probably the pouch of booster you added, which is the corn sugar and maltose mix. Just wait at least a week and things will happen, if it takes longer so be it. Just don't...
