    Nylon Bag Cleaning

Just a little too much info, Eviltwin... :D OK, so I may toss it in the washer next time, but air dry it (since we always use those dryer sheets). Thanks!

    Nylon Bag Cleaning

Yes, I did. I think it's clean...I guess...but it's stained a bit the color of the hops (not as dark, of course).

    Nylon Bag Cleaning

I used a nylon bag for hopping my Pete's Wicked Ale clone yesterday. After I was finished, I emptied it and sprayed it with the kitchen sink sprayer using the hottest water I could run. That got most of the hops residue out, but the bag was still a bit sticky. So I soaked it in hot water for a...

    First Liquid Yeast

I have very active fermentaion. I'm not sure when it started. When I left for work (5:40 a.m.) it had only been about 10 hours, and there were no bubbles yet. When I got home (19 hours after pitching), I checked it to find large bubbles in rapid progression. Too cool. I don't think my Am. Pale...

    First Liquid Yeast

Hey, Breaux. That whole stir plate thing is definitely interesting. There are so many different ways to get things done, it seems! Thanks for the Pete's kit, all the extra goodies, AND for your online and/or phone help with both batches. It was the perfect b-day gift, and it's all very much...

    First Liquid Yeast

I imagine I'll get some just for that. I brewed this batch and just followed the instructions that were on the vial for pitching. So, my Pete's Wicked Ale clone (from AHB) is in the fermentor. This was also my first experience with yeast fuel, the added 1% alcohol boost, Whirlfloc, and using a...

    First Liquid Yeast

Thanks, Yuri. I don't have any extract besides what came with the kit, so I suppose I'll just follow the instructions that came with the yeast. Fermentation may be a bit slower, but I'm also using yeast fuel, so maybe that'll help. I can see that I should probably get some extra DME or LME just...

    First Liquid Yeast

I'm planning to brew my second batch ever tomorrow after work. It's a clone of Pete's Wicked Ale from Ausin Home Brewing. The kit I have includes liquid yeast. My first batch used dry yeast. What do I need to do differently? The instructions I received with the kit are to bring the liquid yeast...

    Gallery Question

Thanks, Breaux. Yep, you get 10MB of gallery space for Gold Membership, and it goes up with each level. I think I didn't scroll far enough down that page before.

    First Brew Success!

Thanks! And you got that right! I'm a lucky guy, when it comes to family.

    First Brew Success!

You've got that right. It's almost a mad scientist kind of feeling, even though I'm following directions. I think I want to get a few batches under my belt, then I plan to start experimenting a bit. Who knows, I may come up with the ultimate home brew some day! It's definitely a kick.

    First Brew Success!

Thanks, man! I claim the whole month as my birthmonth, so belated is just as good as on the day! :D

    First Brew Success!

My first batch ever was an extract American Pale Ale from Listermann's. I bottled it on Nov. 5, so I decided to call this batch Gunpowder Treason Ale (Google it, if you're not a history buff). It's been 18 days in the bottle, and since today was both Thanksgiving and my birthday (I'm 47...woo...

    First Batch Bottled!

Obviously, you're as evil as my brother beer4breakfast! Actually, I had enough for about 10 oz left over when I bottled. Rather than save it and add it to another batch, I put it in a pilsner glass and drank it, warm and uncarbonated. It was delicious!

    First Batch Bottled!

Mom and Dad always said you were the evil one! No, I will resist (at least for tonight).

    First Batch Bottled!

11 days in the bottle, and so far, I've been a good boy and left it alone. I'm thinking I'll be able to make it to day 18 and try it on my b-day (Thanksgiving Day!). I think I can, I think I can...

    First Batch Bottled!

Thanks, Floridaboiler! Congrats on your first batch, too. Thanksgiving in New Jersey is bound to be a lot colder than it will be here in Baton Rouge. I'm sure you'll enjoy that first taste!

    First Batch Bottled!

Thanks, Beerhead! I'm looking forward to that first taste, and since my b-day is gonna be overshadowed with work that morning then the huge family dinner at my wife's uncle's house, I think it's likely to be the highlight of the day!

    First Batch Bottled!

I brewed 5 gallons of American Pale Ale (extract kit from Listermann's) on Oct. 22. I bottled tonight. My SG was 1.017, if I did the math right for the temperature conversion. My brother (beer4breakfast) gave me TONS of good tips to make the process go smoothly. Of course, I still ended up...
