    pH meter recommendations?

How do you feel about an $83 NIST cert on a $75 meter? :drunk::confused: http://www.mitchellinstrument.com/hanna-hi-98127-phep4-ph-tester.html

    Jaybird's Stainless False Bottoms

Haven't heard of anyone else having issues and recently ordered my keggle FB from Jaybird and had no issues. I suspect there's more to this story. Have you tried calling Jaybird at Norcalbrewing? After selling hundreds/thousands of false bottoms on here, I seriously doubt Jaybird is going to...

Better Bottle Fermenters - 6 Gallon

Good point. That much is true. However, his 60+ posts ALL deal with selling stuff here. When someone points out they saw a Better Bottle on eBay for $38, his response is basically too bad I missed it, I could have sold it here for $100 and turned a tidy profit. Rubs me the wrong way I guess.

Bayou Classic SP10 - not worth buying

Yep. Yours was a lemon. Used an SP10 for years with no issues.

Gas and Temperature Control for Dummies

Transformers are sized in VA (volt amps). Most of the Honeywell valves draw 0.5A. So, two valves would draw 1A. 1A x 24V = 24VA. However, you will want a transformer a bit larger than 24 VA to cover inrush currents when the valves turn on. A transformer like this should cover you, but I...

    Stainless Steel Nails for Barrels

Ran across this a while back. Someone emailed Vinny at Russian River about his use of a nail for sampling. He explains the size and his method. Here is the info on the stainless steel nail in the barrel head acting as a poor man’s MacGyver sample port: We drill a hole using a 7/64...

Gas and Temperature Control for Dummies

Don't worry about converting DC back to AC. That's a lost cause. What you want is a 120V/24V transformer, not a power supply. How many valves are you trying to power with the transformer? That will dictate how large of a transformer you need.

Pump in a box - Usefulness is questionable, but a fun little project

I put a cover over my Chugger pumps and that was enough to cause them to overheat. I contacted Chugger and Mike said to remove the cover because the motors can handle a little splashing. I'm still a little uncomfortable with this so I might try putting some vent holes in the covers.

Have you used citra hops as bittering hops? I have...

Give it some time. I did an all citra IPA that had a very distinct onion flavor at first. This faded over time and it ended up being very good. Is the off flavor you're tasting an onion flavor by chance?

    Sanitizer question

I would think they mean you can use it as long as it does not foam or isn't cloudy. Foam = good. No foam = bad.

PseudoSue Intergalactic Warrior Millennium Falcon All some of the best IPA's I've tasted! If you get the chance, try their beers! You won't be disappointed! We are lucky enough to have a few bars locally that get kegs in frequently, but I can't wait until they get their new brewhouse online...

Saison Boulevard Smokestack Series Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale Clone

I think my next brew will be a 12 gallon batch of Tank 7. I will split this into two batches. I'll pitch a saison yeast in both (probably 3724) but for one batch, I am going to secondary with brett B in order to achieve something along the lines of Saison Brett. Thoughts?

Saison Boulevard Smokestack Series Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale Clone

I think it really depends on the temperature during whirlpool. Commercial brewers whirlpool at Hugh temperatures for an extended period of time (sometimes 30-60 minutes) before chilling. If you assume that the wort temperature stays above 200 for a period of time, you're going to get some...

Saison Boulevard Smokestack Series Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale Clone

I'm building a recipe now based on the information provided and was thinking of putting the whirlpool adding in as a 5 minute boil in BeerSmith. For my 6 gallon recipe, 53 grams of Amarillo (8.5% AA) gave me 9.6 IBU.

    Anywhere ship camlocks overseas?

Not sure what their price would be, but www.bargainfittings.com ships to Japan. I'm sure you could throw some in your cart and see what the shipping would be.
