    Green bottles really that bad?

brown, green, or clear does not matter as long as they stay out of the light. best bet is to bottle as normal and then put the bottles in a cardboard box/case/12pack designed for the bottles than in a closet anywhere in your house where the temp does not fluctuate too much... if you like the...

Brewing 4th batch in 20 minutes. Need some advice.

Honey would dry out the end product and impart no noticeable flavor. dark brown sugar would provide more flavor or you could go to any grocery and get molasses and go that route. I have also experimented with adding cocoa powder to the boil which adds a slight chocolaty and coffee flavor to the...

Oak butt brown ale. 1st home brew

if you turn your regulator way up to 30psi and then back down the pressure the regulator reads will drop as the CO2 dissolves into the beer... If you turned it way up and left it at 30 psi and it already reads 10 psi then you may have a leak. best bet is to get yourself a strong mixture of...

Forgot to add Chocolate Malt - can I add tomorrow?

True you could add something if you did it soon enough but it would have to be boiled for at least 20 minutes for conversion. Since its already been a couple days I'd just throw in 2 tbsp of cocoa powder for a bit of flavor and see what happens... just this dogs opinion

Oak butt brown ale. 1st home brew

When was it bottled? Did you stir the priming sugar well prior to bottling? How much head space is in your bottles? There are too many unanswered factors here to give you a definitive answer... these are just the first 3 things i thought of.

    Attempting to lower my FG

You can try to shake/swirl up your carboy to get the yeast off the bottom and then put the carboy somewhere where it can finish fermentation at around 65° to 70°F. If any yeast is still active and there is still sugar to convert this is your best bet at this point.

    Boom! What now?

What temp was this cooled down prior to pitch and what temp was it fermenting at? Warm temps can cause yeast to go crazy regardless of the strain. I'd recommend getting yourself a larger carboy and more closely monitoring your pitching and fermenting temps in the future.

speeding up cooling in side-by-side fridge

You could always make a tub out of mdf and get some heavy duty real thick poly and line it to ensure it does not leak... it would not have to be more than maybe 8" high to get really good heat transfer

speeding up cooling in side-by-side fridge

If you're going to go to this much trouble why not make a bath that the carboy can sit in and have your copper with circulating glycol in the bath? This will give you a liquid medium that provides fast heat transfer and minimal interaction. Also this way you will avoid any possibility of...

To leave air, or not to?

Really depends on your freezer and where the heat dispersion coils are located. See if you can find a diagram of how it is put together and you may be able to then decide if you need a space for air movement all around or on just one side or perhaps none at all. Again it really depends on how...

    Strain your wort

When I was using an IC and throwing all the hops directly into the biol i used to strain when going into the carboy just to try to make cleaning easier post fermentation but since upgrading to a CFC I now use a paint strainer bag to put all the hops in during the boil to ensure hops does not...

    Took a FG reading today...

Have you calibrated your hydrometer? If your hydrometer is properly calibrated, it should read 1.000 when floating in pure water. Since both your original and final gravity are both high and it seems you hit the ABV you were shooting for I would highly recommend this. I have a hydrometer that...
