    Grants

Routinely use a grant while lautering. My buddy says on a 1/2 barrel system it is unnecessary. I say he's full of s**t. You are still pulling suction on the grain bed no matter the brewery size. I know you guys have no issues with opinions so fire away.

    Dispensing Draft into Bottle question.

I despise bottling. Lazy I guess. So I keg everything. When I do want a few bottles lying around I fit a standard racking cane into a party tap and slide a small drilled stopper onto the cane. I then insert it into the bottle and burp the stopper as the beer stops flowing. Think beer gun. Cap as...

    Keeping long lines cold

Does anyone have a DIY chiller setup the might be able to show some pics of? I like this DIY thing. What's funny is I'm a master boiler and refer tech and don't usually want to bring work home but for beer......

    Keeping long lines cold

So, I hope this is in the right section. I'm kinda new here. I just bought a house and it has a bar in the mancave. This thing is a screaming for a mushroom tower with perlick faucets. Directly behind it is a under the stairs closet with an exterior wall. I am lining the closet with insulation...

    Pellicle Photo Collection

This is a Belgian Blond. I later inoculated with a sour mix from WL. After several months I added several lbs of macerated strawberries and raspberries. Yumm!

    Mistakes that turn out awesome

I've waited to the last minute, used one grain over another because its what was in my bin, and fermented way too high/fast and had the beer come out way better than expected, not to style, but good just the same. I did this with a wheat once and got honorable mention. What's y'all's...

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

I work in a far flung remote mine and I'm there for a month at a time. Half the guys I work with are constantly badgering me to find god and come to church. I'm evil for reading science magazines and brewing beer. I swear to grist if I hear that im going to hell if I don't change my ways and...

Must fight the urge to be a beer snob....

Holy crap that was me in the past and I never even considered if I was being a d!€k. On the being a snob point. There are a good many people who simply buy into the marketing BS and truly believe frost brewed and triple hopped. And many are receptive to the truth, especially if you buy the...

Whats the biggest bonehead mistake you've made while brewing?

Entered a heffe into a brew event. Spaced off the timing until a week before. I hurried and threw together what in the past was a fair heffe. The yeast I was using threw a little sour notes under normal circumstances. So I pitched this and some lacto and upped the temp to 80 degrees plus. After...

Activities everyone seems to enjoy... but you

A effin men. I paid big bucks to go to GABF and enjoy, sample, and ask questions. But it ended up being a bunch of frat boys screaming, puking, spilling on me and my cousin, and being all around rude. I was sooo po'd.

    Help! Ive created a monster!

Ok I convinced him to go with a system that will not get harmed by running smaller batches. It will be at his property so I can't just put my foot down. But my reluctance comes more from variety not quantity Plus I enjoy the exercise of brewing just as much as consuming. We are going 50/50 so...

    help beer isnt flowing

The poppet is inside the fittings on the keg. Your LHBS should have a socket to remove these. It is the part that is essentially a spring loaded valve. I made my removal tool for my pin locks by dremeling slits in a spark plug socket. You then pry them out and replace with new. Again LHBS should...

    help beer isnt flowing

Is the pin/ball depressor still on your fitting? Have you cleaned your lines taps? One way to eliminate the lines and tap is to depress the lock with something clean and if beer flows then its your lines or tap. If nothing happens you have a CO2 issue. Hope this helps.
