    Ipa 72 degrees too high?

I've read that fermentation raises the temp, so is the desired 68 degrees the temp for holding after fermentation or the entire time? Also what is a good vessel for a swamp cooler? Any suggestions? I like the half gallon frozen jugs, definitely will be using that in the future

    Another noob question

What do u guys use to pour/mix with? I guess I also have seen it being difficult because I just use a bowl to hydrate the yeast in. Doesn't seem like a good pouring vessel. Also I have only added maybe 4 tablespoons of water, just enough to hydrate, but I can use my liquid to make pitching...

    Another noob question

Ok so this was what I was originally planning on doing but I have no clue how I would pitch the yeast and actually get it all in. Seems like half of it would end up on the sides of the carboy?

    Another noob question

Ok so if I want my fermentation to take place in my carboy rather than my fermentation bucket what is the best way to transfer to it? I would assume to use my siphon but I guess I was concerned about pitching my yeast and then siphoning into the carboy and leaving the yeast behind. Thanks...

    Ipa 72 degrees too high?

I'm doing my first IPA, brewed yesterday, looked at it today and things look good but the temp is at 72. Not sure if its relevant but I'm using dry yeast. Is this too high for fermentation? Is it just a little over and ok? Or should I try to bring down the temp a bit to 68? Thanks a lot!

    Quick question

Hmm so hydrating makes a difference? It just makes it seem like either/or or that it doesnt matter which you choose

    Quick question

First brew i hydrated the dry yeast, this time i want to just add the yeast and see which i prefer. Do i just simply sprinkle the yeast on the top and thats it? Thanks!!

    Two beginner questions

Thanks man. Excited to give this a try. Best part of this whole thing is that my first brew is just finishing up carbing so i get to drink my own homebrew while brewing this time!!

    Two beginner questions

Thanks guys for spending the time to be so thorough. Woozy, woulda quoted some of the things you said here but you wrote alot and i havent quite mastered pulling quotes from a post. Anyway im brewing today and im definitely going to add the DME early and the LME at flameout. Im still...

    Two beginner questions

Sorry noob here but what do you specifically mean at "flame out"? Is it just when you turn he heat off? Seems stupid to ask but i think i may give this a whirl. So i follow the recipe and add the DME at the time they say to and then at the very end of the boil i remove from heat and stir in...

    Two beginner questions

Ok so these should probably be really easy for you guys, just wanted to clarify two things before I brew. This is my second batch and its a simcoe ipa. I received dry and liquid malt extract in the kit, I add them at the same time right? All it says is "add malt extract". Although I assume...

Cool gift for dad but trying not to break the bank

I thought about the auto-syphon...i just cant recall if he has one or not. He has at least 5 carboys that i saw. Maybe more. He offered to set me up with one. He has all the family equipment as of now

Cool gift for dad but trying not to break the bank

Trying to get my dad a gift is always the classic buying for the guy who has everything. So i had the idea of getting him somethin for his wine making. Problem is...not sure what all he has but i know he has all the basics. The two things i thought of were a bench corker? Or i know he uses...
