    Indoor Boiling Alternatives

I have a 32L kettle (as pictured below) that sits over two gas rings. I can get to a rolling boil on my stove but it takes ages and you need to have the lid partly on if you want the boil to be vigorous. Are there any alternatives to a propane burner that you can use indoors? I live in the...

    Mash First, Boil Later

Thanks. Raised it to 87c and I now sitting with the lid on, covered under 3 coats. Really appreciate your help. Had no idea about the lacto bug!

    Mash First, Boil Later

And this will kill the bug?

    Mash First, Boil Later

I'll go with the 180 I think. Do I just bring it to temp and then turn the heat off?

    Mash First, Boil Later

I'm resuming 5 hours later with the boil. How long do I need to hold the temperature at 175 for?

    Mash First, Boil Later

Surely, if I'm doing a full 60 minute boil later that will kill off any bugs won't it?

    Mash First, Boil Later

    But it's not unreasonable?

    Mash First, Boil Later

I'm planning on doing a Mini-BIAB on my stove top and wondered whether the following would be feasible: Could you bring your water to temp, do your mash, remove and squeeze after the mash is complete and then put the lid on and leave the wort, boiling it + hop additions several hours later...

    Wort Seems Thin and Watery

Pellet hops that is. Haven't done it yet. Do you think 40g is too much? Would 20g be better?

    Wort Seems Thin and Watery

    40g too much?

    Wort Seems Thin and Watery

Guess I could add plenty of hops at dry hopping stage to bring out hop character. How much would you recommend?

    Wort Seems Thin and Watery

NB: According to my notes, my post boil amount was 13L, so I only topped up with 6L of water.

    Wort Seems Thin and Watery

Last night I did my first a BIAB. Generally, the whole process went quiet well but when I tasted the wort, just prior to pitching the yeast, it seems thin and watery. I boiled a thick wort (which was 1.061 at the end of the boil), which I topped up with 7L of water, giving me an OG of 1.040 (I...

    Yeats, Sanitation, and Such

Auto syphons are definitely the way forward, however, you need to ensure the inside and outside are sanitised before putting it in your fermenting bucket. Another word of caution: they can be a pain in the arse to get going. Make sure that the rubber ring INSIDE the syphon is creating a vacuum...

    Brew Pot

Forgot to ask about heat retention too for BIAB.

    Brew Pot

Does anybody own the Brupak 32L Stainless Steep Pan (without the strainer). If so, what are they like? What is the build quality like, how long do they take to heat, how do they distribute heat? Thanks :)

    Brew Pot

How long would it take to bring that amount of liquid to a rolling boil?

    Brew Pot

I'm after a brew pot for BIAB. I only have the capacity to do stove top brewing, so I'd be doing a partial mash (mostly with a grain bill of around 3-4KG and some DME thrown in) in order to get around 19L (there'd be some water top up going on I should imagine to reach my target batch size)...

    Should I...

Thanks. I live in the UK. They're kinda more expensive over here for a decent one.

    Should I...

I'm going to make a partial mash blonde ale using: 3KG Maris Otter Pale Malt 500g Extra Light Malt Extract Willamette Hops US05 yeast I'm aiming for 21 litres but only have the capacity for boiling 15 litres (pre-boil. Post boil for me is 13.5 litres). Should I add the extract into my pot 15...
