    Beersmith Guestinmations

Hi there, I'm wondering anyone can help me. I brewed this last night (my own recipe): http://beersmithrecipes.com/viewrecipe/796174/stout-to-the-lord-batch-no002 After the mash, I collected around 9L of wort of 1.096. My batch sparge collected around 17L of 1.072. I also ran 1 litre...

    Under Carbonation

I've moved them into the attic room, which is slightly warmer.

    Under Carbonation

Thanks. I live in the north of England where the weather sucks at best, so getting a room temp of 21C without blasting the heating out in summer for several hours is impossible.

    Under Carbonation

Just under two weeks ago, I batch primed an IPA for the first time (I normally prime each bottle with half a teaspoon of dextrose) using 137g of dextrose in 100ml of boiled and cool water (this went into 5.5 gallons of beer). I poured it carefully into the secondary and gave it a gentle but...

    Epic STC1000 Fail?

Banter ;) long live the pint! Thanks for the advice on wiring. Decided to make the hole bigger and use two single sockets as before. Nearly electrocuted myself last night so didn't want to take the chance. About to turn it on now I've redone it. If you don't hear from me, raise up a glass...

    Epic STC1000 Fail?

Thanks for that. As for location, didn't even know you could do that on HBT, but will update my profile. Whilst we're talking pet peeves, the thing that annoys me the most is how everything is in Fahrenheit. All but 3 countries in the world use celsius. Maybe you guys should catch up ;)

    Epic STC1000 Fail?

In UK based so is black live or neutral in the States?

    Stc1000

Not in the UK they don't. Totally different plug set up.

    Stc1000

I built a fermentation temp controller a while ago and decided that I needed to build another so I can have two beers on the go at once. Being the clever sod I am, I decided to buy a single phase 2 gang plug socket, not realising that in an ideal world, I need two single plug sockets. I tried...

    Epic STC1000 Fail?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this just operating heating?

    Epic STC1000 Fail?

I think I may have made a bit of a fail with my latest STC1000. I purchased a double plug socket, which turns out to be single pole, however, I cut the hole in the box now. Is there any way I can wire this up to heat and cool using this? Am I able to wire this up just to heat even?

Overshot OG - How To Dilute

I added 4 litres of boiled then chilled water yesterday to the fermentor. Could possibly get another 1L in but am going to leave it as it is. My grain bill was 5.05KG Maris Otter and 200g torrified wheat. I'm doing BIAB so that went in 29.5L water. My efficiency is usually around 70%. I...

Overshot OG - How To Dilute

Brewersfriend seemed to suggest that the OG should be 1.040 and FG 1.007. I probably need to readdress the math as something evidently is wrong somewhere. That aside, would the beer take much harm if I added water during fermentation? It was only after pitching the yeast and went to bed that I...

Overshot OG - How To Dilute

Also, would be interested to know whether anyone has added water during fermentation and what effect this had.

Overshot OG - How To Dilute

So I'm trying to make a pale ale that is around 4.7% ABV but unfortunately (or fortunately) my mash was far more efficient than usual meaning my OG wasn't 1.040 but was 1.059. I've read a bit about blending water post fermentation in order to dilute a strong beer and get more from a batch like...

Liquid Yeast Beers Always Seem a Bit... Well, Not as Good as Dried Yeast

I've just had a Red Rye that I made after five days and it's only half carbonated. I've never had full carbonation after a week or so, usually two or three!

    Help on Going Electric

I'm starting to get a bit lost with the talk of controllers and stuff! Is there not a simple option of just plugging the kettle in and let it get hot?!

    Help on Going Electric

Just had a look. My cooker sockets and my ground floor sockets are ok other breakers, so I presume that means they're on different circuits? The only snag is that the closest ground floor socket is a few meters away. Would it matter if I used an extension lead to plug on of the elements in...

    Help on Going Electric

So, presuming I have a wall socket next to my cooker, as one across the room, and I plugged the elements into these two different sockets, if it was on the same circuit breaker, I wouldn't be able to use two elements? What about one element? The guy at the store said I could get to a rolling...

    Help on Going Electric

Also, I presume if I used one 2.4kW heating element in my kettle, I'd be fine going into a standard plug? How long would it take to bring 70L to a rolling boil?
