Mine never bubbles. It's one of the airlocks with two chambers that kind of looks like an S on its side with a little red cap.

Is it normal for airlocks not to bubble? Mine just seems to push the water up the airlock when it's fermenting. Is that normal? Lots of people seem to talk about them bubbling.

I have one of those stick on LC (liquid crystal) thermometers that goes up in multiples of 2s (C). Exactly how reliable are they?
I am currently fermenting a stout and when I've taken hydrometer readings, the LC thermometer has shown something around 16-18c. But when I've used a spirit...
AaronTX: I thought it could just be an extract twang, but I didn't have it with the Coopers IPA and I've used spraymalt as my additional fermentables rather than LME.

Do you think it's genuine flavours then rather than stressed yeast or an infection? I've never really tasted it in beer before as prominently.

I did wonder whether it was chocolate malt as I used some steeping grains in the stout, which I should imagine, would be in the grain bill for the Newkie Brown.

I've brewed 3 beers from kits now: 1 Wilkos Sweet Newkie Brown, 1 Coopers IPA, and 1 Coopers Irish Stout.
The IPA tasted utterly fantastic but the Brown ale had an earthy taste to it. I've got the stout on at the moment and, having tasted it when taking a hydrometer reading (I think it's about...
I've just purchased a Festival of London Landlord's Porter beer kit and the instructions say that after two weeks in the primary, I should rack to a secondary.
Are secondary fermenters necessary and what purpose do they serve?

Thanks for that. I steeped some high colour crystal malt and some chocolate malt to add to my stout. Drew a sample this evening to take a hydrometer reading. Tasting pretty good so far!

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what the strain of yeast is that comes with a Wilkos beer kit? Also, they sell 'Gervin Ale Yeast' separately. Does anyone know whether this is the same yeast that comes with their beer kits, and if so, what is it like in comparison to something like Nottingham or...
Thanks. Saw a good video on YouTube where the guy said but grains that will compliment the style of beer, so got some chocolate malt and dark crystal for a stout.

So, I want to make a chocolate stout using the Coopers Irish Stout as my base. I've seen a few videos on YouTube of guys adding a small amount of steeping grains to give it a fresh taste and I was considering giving it a go.
Has anyone done this before, how did they go about it and what...
I am... That's why my bottles ferment under a thick dressing gown in a box in a warm room for a few weeks before being transferred to a dark cellar.
Taste pretty good to me! :)

I'm sure you can spell Immanuel as Emmanuel, but I can see how a slight spelling error would be very awkward!
He'brews is a quality name! Love it!

Yay, I made labels for my brand, Emmanuales. Would love some suggestions for names of the beer. So far, got Ale The Lamb, Israel Pale Ale, Dark Ages Stout and Beer Thou My Vision.
