Must I Lager a Cream Ale?

When it comes to a fruit beer. First thing that comes to my mind is a basic wheat beer with either raspberry, strawberry, apricot or a mix. I have done 5 gallon batches with 2 packages of frozen raspberry in secondaries which gave it a more tart fruit bite which is a nice quality, if you want...

    Over hyped beers.

Dirty Hippie from Palisade Brewing. Its about the only tap craft beer in town. Nasty dark wheat beer. Tastes worse than hippie shower water after a phish concert.

Must I Lager a Cream Ale?

I do a cream ale about twice a year. I have never lagered it or even have used lager yeast in mine. I always have used 1056 American Ale. You may want to think of a the swamp cooler or other simple methods during your fermentation due to your 71 degree temp.

    Filtering without a keg setup

Yeah,, I wouldn't mind having a dozen or so myself. For plastic caps they are pretty pricey. They do have filters for beer during kegging, which I don't see why it couldn't gravity. The downfall is going to be the carbonation.. You are just not going to get around kegging due to the need of...

    Filtering without a keg setup

There is a company out there that has a product that collects the sediment ouf of the bottles. They are called Sed - Ex. Kind of pricey but if you want a a clean sediement free bottle of beer with out filters and kegs it's an alternative. I'm sure there are other ways of doing it also though...

    My first batch!!

The thick goo at the bottom is normal. Yeast Cake ( it's trub ie. materials falling out of the beer during aging /fermentation). Dark with no light is the best condition for fermentation. Cover the carboy with an old T-Shirt.

    Lager Yeast Questions

I typically like to do a 250ml starter for 20-36 hours. Then add additional 500ml of wort for another 24 hours. This gives a pretty good lager start. A 5 gallon batch will show good signs of fermentation in less than 24 hrs. Mixing yeast is always interesting and will not result in bad...
