Will hop flavor fade even when the beer is refrigerated?

To answer your first question, Yes, hop flavor will fade even when a beer is refrigerated. I don't know how the hops flavor changes in an un-refrigerated beer, but I would guess it is just as fast (or faster). This even happens in your commercial beers. Hopslam and even the Elder's hop...

    Making my yeast go farther

I've been having this same discussion with my friend and he mentioned that Brewstrong stated that after washing a yeast, the yeast is only good for 4 weeks. I would like to prove him wrong b/c I like yeast washing and I love saving money.

    Electric HLT questions

Do you use an electric element for your brew kettle? I want to use 5000w element for my HLT and for a brew keggle. I am trying to determine if I need to set up two control panels (like The Pols) or is there a way to use one panel to cover both jobs. Due to my electrical limitations, I will...

    Mike's E-KEGGLE

I noticed you used knockouts to put the hole in the side of your keggle for the heating element. How well did it work? I found a reasonable one at Harborfreight, but I did not know if it would work. We've already tried a step bit, which works great up to 3/4", however, past that point, we...

    Yeast Starter Question

I've read that usually when you make a starter that needs to be stepped up (1.5L->3.0L), you first make the 1.5L starter, let it go on the stir plate for approximately 12-18 hrs and then chill the starter, decant, and pour yeast into new 3.0L starter. Here is my question, is there a negative...

American IPA Bee Cave Brewery IPA

I'm glad to see this. I brewed 5g a few days ago and I only had 64% eff, which is a bummer b/c I average in the mid-70s. So hopefully everything will turn out the same.

    Irish Stout Ó Flannagáin Standard

I brewed 5g AG of this last month and it went awesome, but now it is terrible. Here is the story...I have been letting it age in a keg until I received my new Perlick creamer faucet from Forrest with Austin hbs. I took a few pulls off the tap, everything tasted great, even with it being a...

    86% Efficiency!!

Amazing efficiency and an amazing AG time! 3.5 hours from initial heating to pitching yeast...wow. I am having trouble staying under 5 hrs with a 60 min mash, double batch sparge, and a 60 min boil. I guess practice is needed.

Calif. Common that ferments about 70F?

I fermented the AHS California Common this past June with a dry lager yeast and my average temp was 69-70 in my crawlspace. It great. You should have seen my neighbors face when he took the last pull off my keg and it didn't fill his glass.
