They make copper gaskets for flare fitting if it is just brass to brass, If you have a copper line that is flared with a flare nut, then you dont need one. A flare fitting is designed to seal on the surface, not the threads. Thats why the threads aren't tapered. The tape may have helped seal...

Any fitting where the threads are the seal, or any NPT fitting use the teflon tape. . If its a flare fitting you dont need it. Teflon tape lubricates, and seals.

Ive heard some brands of lme have less fermentables in them. I always use dry ....for a couple reasons and have better luck with it. Either try a diff. yeast or just drink it.

If it was a mercury thermometer, I wouldnt drink it.......I would have used some tonges or something to fetch it out.....surprised you couldnt get it out before the boil. Find out what was in the thermometer and if it is env. friendly or what.

Thats pretty $hitty man.....sorry about your luck. My dog doesnt bother my brew...he does help clean the floor after bottling day though!

Man...I get to sample mine this weekend that I bottled. It will be 2 weeks in the bottle this weekend..I plan on taking alot of it up for our camping trip mem day weekend.
