    Gas line size for keg

That's one of the reasons I've never stocked a single QD with a fixed barb size. It's a nightmare being stuck with a barb size that doesn't fit the tubing you want to use. We only sell QDs with male flare threaded connections so you can swap out the FFL x barb fitting to whatever you need. No...

    Fly sparging question

And the one thing I didn't read carefully enough to see if it was covered was the fact that in these relatively tiny batches the ramp up to a boil in a short few minutes will bring the total wort quantity well past the denaturing temperature that the mash out was intended to accomplish anyway...

What BIAB brewing actually is (Mythbusting for traditionalists)

For the most part, I think we've turned the corner. For many of the older members of our hobby, not necessary age "old", but people brewing for 2 decades or more, tend to have a harder time understanding the process (or accepting its viability). The irony of it all is that it's really the only...

What no one wants to say

I think it might be somewhat true. It's hard to accept that people are motivated by different things than I am but I never started brewing because I couldn't find good beer and I haven't stopped because there is already too much good beer out there. There are plenty of good bagel shops in town...

    Fly sparging question

The primary reason a pour over sparge can be sketchy is that you don't really know if it's channeling or not. Generally when you fly sparge you're very careful to make sure the whole grainbed is as fluid as possible and that requires not letting the liquid level fall below the top of the grain...

What no one wants to say

I agree 99%. If someone paid me a consultation fee to advise on how to open a homebrew supply store, the best service would be to crush their dreams immediately. The only reason why I'm still in business is that I started as an equipment manufacturer and expanded into a full service shop. Then I...

I wouldn't expect you to. My post is more explanatory about why the prices are higher and not a guilt trip.

    Choose a reverse osmosis system

This reply is only for someone that may stumble onto the thread in the future because you've already moved forward with an appropriate solution. The majority of systems you'll find are just a complete package with a small pressure storage tank and dispensing faucet. While not ever user/brewer...

What no one wants to say

I can't get a sack of Briess 2-row for less than $33 and that's a full pallet with a $10K order discount applied. Add $3.75 per sack for freight. It doesn't matter which of the four available distributors I use, it's all plus or minus a couple dollars. Even when I could buy Briess direct from...

Reliable source for lower AA British-style hop cones?

If they're called "leaf hops" it's definitely a misnomer because there are no leaves in there. The industry term is "whole cone hops". The cones are harvested and dried are packaged short of pelletizing. Most of the imports from Europe to the U.S. are pelletized because it's cheaper to ship as...

What no one wants to say

I'm not sure this is even one of the top 10 drivers for the craft downturn. What I think you're suggesting is that if "some" of the breweries are making bad beer or butchering a style, a good portion of otherwise ambitious consumers will get tired of looking for a brewery that makes better beer...

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

I think twice a day is over watering as it washes away all the nutrients. A really good soaking every other day is what I've been doing. Allow 3 good bines per root ball but cut away everything else. Also, make sure you apply a small amount of fertilizer every other week during peak watering season.

    Androids update sucks

You're not kidding. The Android 15 update broke the blutooth communication with my Easydens. I have to break out an older phone and prevent updates to make it a dedicated easydens display. To be honest, I'm not hating the idea that this old phone has a new dedicated purpose, but...

Reliable source for lower AA British-style hop cones?

Yeah. Sorry. My mistake. I asked because I have owned and operated a homebrew supply shop for the last 11 years and curiosity got the best of me. I'll learn to just shut my mouth if I don't have the exact answer you were looking for.

What no one wants to say

When any industry sees sustained growth, it will inevitably get over inflated as the masses want a piece of the action. It's not dying because of mediocre beer. It's retracting due to over saturation. In fact, it has been over saturated for a long time but investors didn't notice for a while and...

One poster in this thread is dubious. That doesn't make a topic taboo by a long shot.
